SAN DIEGO - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team shot a 315 over the first round of The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn to finish the day in 15th. Monday was scheduled to be the second round of the tournament; however, substantial rainfall in the San Diego area forced Sunday's round to be cancelled and the event shortened to 36 holes.
Tulane, ranked 37th in the latest Golfstat poll, leads the 16 team field with an 18-hole total of 293. No. 8 Southern California and No. 3 Arizona State are deadlocked for second after posting scores of 295. Fourth place also features a tie between No. 21 Pepperdine and No. 13 Texas A&M as both squads shot a 302. In all, a total of 12 teams ranked in the Golfstat Top 50 poll are represented in the field.
Henderson played 3-over through her front nine, which featured a double bogey on her opening hole, on the par-72 6,267-yard course. The junior then settled in over her back nine to card seven pars versus a pair of bogeys. Alexander opened both her front and back nine with a pair of bogeys, but countered both times with a birdie. The junior played the remaining 12 holes of the round 3-over leading to her 77. Like Henderson, Higginbotham also carded a 3-over through nine holes before sinking a birdie putt on the par-5 12th hole to bring her tally to +2. However, the junior was hampered by three bogeys over her final six holes.
Coastal will wrap the final holes of the rain shortened event on Tuesday with 18 holes.
