NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - It came down to one stroke, but when the final ball dropped into the cup the 2013 Purdue Mount Vintage Invitational belonged to Coastal Carolina, who carded a three-day score of 910 to edge 28th-ranked Iowa State.

The tournament victory is the Chanticleers' first since winning the 2011 Big South Championship. Coastal (306-294-310) bested Iowa State (305-301-305=911) and 15th-ranked and host Purdue (313-298-302=913) in winning the title. Augusta State (315-315-302=932), Delaware (350-333-324=1,007) and IUPUI (330-335-343=1,008) rounded out the field.

Frida Castillo was the Chanticleers top finisher in the event, tying for fifth in the 35-competitor field. The top-five finish is Castillo's best of the season and second of her career. Castillo, who entered the final round sixth on the leaderboard, tallied a 3-over 75 on her final 18 holes to complete the tournament with a 10-over 226. The sophomore's final round featured five birdies, including ones on the par-3 seventh and 11th holes.

Brittany Henderson, who was tied for third after two round of play, placed eighth overall with a 12-over, 228 three round tally. Henderson has now posted five top-10 performances on the season. The Smiths Falls, Ontario, native turned in a 79 on her final round. Her day was highlighted by a birdie on the par-3, 160-yard third hole, the third most difficult scoring hole of the round.

Senior Jessica Alexander finished a stroke behind Henderson in ninth overall with a 229 (78-74-77). Alexander made the turn at 2-over after a birdie on nine, but posted a trio of bogeys over her final five holes to card a 5-over 77. The top-10 placing is her fourth this season and the 15th of her Coastal career.

Marissa Hinchman led the entire field with 37 pars over the three rounds of play. The Chanticleer newcomer recorded her third career top-20 finish with a 12th-place showing. Hinchman scored a 79 on the day after posting round of 74 and 81 on Saturday. Fellow freshman Lena Schaeffner turned in her second top-20 finish of her young career, tying for 16th overall. Schaeffner tallied scores of 77-76-84, totaling a 21-over 237.

Courtney Boe, who played as an individual, tied for 23rd after posting rounds of 88-81-82 to finish her first tournament of the spring at 251 (+35).

The Chanticleers return to the links on March 15 for the annual Augusta State-hosted Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate at the Forest Hills Golf Club in famed Augusta, Ga.
