AUGUSTA, GA. - Led by a 1-2 finish by senior Aruka Felgueroso and freshman Brittany Henderson, the Coastal Carolina University women's golf team took home the team title at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, March 7-8. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was played at Forest Hills Golf Club (Par 72 - 5,878 yards) in Augusta, Ga.
The Chanticleers posted their second team title of the year and third under Head Coach Katie Quinney, winning this one by a 15-shot margin after posting a 54-hole total of 891, which ranks as the fourth best three-round total in Coastal history. In the final 18, Coastal shot the low round of the tournament, posting a 3-over 291, which was the fifth-best team 18-hole score in school annals. The round was eight shots better than host Augusta State at 299, who finished as the tournament's runner-up at 906. UNC Wilmington was third at 926, followed by Western Carolina in fourth at 931 and Middle Tennessee State rounding out the top five at 933.
Felgueroso shot a tournament-best 4-under 68 in the final round, the only score under par in the event, to finish at 3-over 219, with the 68 a team season best and tying for the second lowest 18-hole score in school history. Felgueroso finished four shots ahead of teammate Henderson in a tie for second at 223 with Augusta State's Tamara Luccioli. In her second tournament as part of the five-player team, freshman Taylor Slagle tied for sixth at 226, while junior Alicia Grier and freshman Jessica Alexander tied for 10th at 228, putting all five Chants in the top 10.
Coastal returns to the course Mon.-Tue., March 22-23 at the Pinehurst Challenge at Pinehurst Resort #6 in Pinehurst, N.C.
