GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina women’s golf team finished tied for sixth place Monday afternoon at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Invite from the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida.
The Chanticleers finished with an overall score of 901 (290-306-305) and ended the two-day tournament tied with Iowa State and Chattanooga for sixth place on the par-70, 6,074-yard course.
Tournament host Florida won the overall title with a score of 865 (280-292-293) and finished 18 strokes ahead of second-place Florida State (295-294-294=883). Ohio State (299-300-296=895), Colorado (300-296-300) and Arkansas (298-296-305=899) rounded out the top 5.
Senior Alicia Grier was the top finisher for the Chanticleers and ended the tournament tied for 15th overall after carding a score of 222. Grier tied her career-best with a 69 in round one and followed that with a 75 in round two and a 78 in the final round.
Junior Kaitlin Higginbotham turned in an 18th place finish to mark the second tournament this spring in which she has finished in the top 20. Higginbotham shot a career-low 69 in round one before carding a 77 in the final two rounds on her way to an overall score of 223.
Freshman Courtney Boe tied for 30th place after firing rounds of 75, 76 and 77 en route to an overall score of 228. Sophomore Brittany Henderson moved up 15 places and finished tied for 35th overall after entering the final round tied for 50th. Henderson carded an overall score of 229 after rounds of 77, 78 and 74.
Sophomore Jessica Alexander improved her position by six spots and ended the tournament tied for 67th. Alexander featured rounds of 79, 82 and 77 on her way to an overall score of 238.
Coastal Carolina returns to action March 13-14 when the Chanticleers travel to Augusta, Ga., to take part in the Adminstaff Lady Jaguar.
