Women's Golf Ties for Seventh at Inkster Invitational

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team posted its best round of the 54-hole, Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational - carding a 298, to finish tied for seventh place with a three-round score of 901 at the par 72, 6,162-yard Almaden Golf and Country Club.
The 13-team field featured two teams ranked among the nation's top 35, including winner and #20 Oregon (876). The Ducks were followed by #35 UC Davis (878), host San Jose State (883), New Mexico (891), San Francisco (892) and Portland State (897). The Chanticleers tied with Santa Clara and Cal State Fullerton for seventh and Boise State (902) rounded the top 10.
Emee Herbertled the Chanticleer contingent, tying for 17th in the 69-competitor field Overall, she carded a 7-over par 223 (75-74-74). Starting on the par-4 fifth hole, she played her first seven holes of the day 2-under, but had bogeys on 12, 16, 17 and one for her 2-over round of 74 Tuesday.
Lena Schaeffner, Marissa Hinchman and Frida Castilloeach tied for 27th overall with matching 10-over, 226 54-hole scores. Schaeffner (76-76-74) shaved two strokes off her second-round score to post a 2-over 74 on the day. She carded her only birdie of the tournament on the par-4, 375-yard 17th hole. Hinchman (73-77-76) turned in a 76 over her final round, sinking a pair of birdie putts along the way. Castillo (76-76-74) shot her best round Tuesday, posting a 2-over 74. The senior led Coastal with five birdies throughout the round, but was hampered by a triple-bogey on 17.
Courtney Boerounded out Coastal's contingent. Boe tied for 59th with a 54-hole score of 237 (77-79-81). The senior closed the tournament with three birdies, including one on the par-3, 144-yard 15th hole during her final round.
Coastal's next tournament is the Georgia Regent-August-hosted Insperity Lady Jaguar Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club in August, Ga. The 54-hole tournament opens with 18 holes of play of Monday, March 14 and concludes with a final 18 holes on March 16.
