Women's Golf Opens Spring 2014 Season at Inkster Invite

SAN JOSE, CALIF. - The Coastal Carolina women's golf team opened its 2014 portion of the schedule, playing 36 holes at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational hosted by San Jose State at the par 72, 6,162-yard Almaden Golf and Country Club.
The Chanticleers carded rounds of 300-303 and their two-round total of 603 puts Coastal in a tie for sixth place. Oregon, ranked 20th nationally, leads with a 36-hole score of 588, while No. 35 UC Davis and San Francisco are tied for second with scores of 590.
Emee Herbertopened with a 75 - having just one birdie, but knocked one stroke off that total for a 2-over par second round of 70. She reeled of 23 pars and four birdies throughout the day compared to just nine bogeys. She is tied for 15th with a 5-over 149 through two rounds.
Marissa Hinchmantied for 20th on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore opened with a 1-over 73 then carded a 5-over 77 for a 150. Schaeffner has an 11-over 151 (78-73), shaving five strokes off his morning session.
Frida Castillo and Lena Schaeffnerare tied for 28th overall with matching 36-holes scores of 152. Both players shot rounds of 76 in both the first and second round. Castillo carded four birdies on the day, while Schaeffner posted 28 pars.
Courtney Boerounded out CCU's contingent. The senior shot 77-79 (156) and is tied for 49th.
The Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational will conclude Tuesday with 18 final holes.
