PLEASANTON, Calif. - Senior Jessica Alexander turned in the 14th top-10 finish of her career in leading Coastal Carolina to a sixth place (tied) finish at the inaugural Cal Classic played at the par-72, 6,304-yard Ruby Hill Golf Club.

Alexander carded a 3-over 75 on the final 18 holes of the 36-hole tournament en route to finish the event with a 147, tying for ninth in the 60-competitor field. Alexander, who started her day on the fifth hole, played her first 10 holes at 1-under before recording her first blemish of the day. She got back to 1-under on the round with a birdie on 18, but bogeyed her final four holes to finish at 3-over.

Coastal finished the tournament with a two-day combined team score of 603 (301-305), tying for sixth overall with San Jose State (311-295). The Chanticleers defeated Golfstats' 39th-ranked team in California, which finished the tournament with a 607 (302-305). No. 13 Stanford claimed the first-year event championship, posting a 586 (298-288) score. No. 14 Arizona State secured runner-up honors with a 36-hole score of 592 (296-296). San Diego State (300-297=597), No. 11 UC Davis (298-301=599) and No. 40 UNLV (302-301=603) rounded out the top five teams.

The Chanticleers proved to be one of the more consistent scoring teams at the tournament, finishing third in par-3 scoring (+8) and fourth in par-5 scoring (+5) along with carding the fourth-most pars (110).

Sophomore Frida Castillo was Coastal's second-best finisher as she posted a season-best 22nd-place showing. Castillo, who opened the event with a 78, shot 2-over on the day to ink a 74. Castillo finished the day with a pair of birdies, including one on the treacherous par-3 third hole.

Brittany Henderson and Lena Schaeffner both shot 6-over 78s on the day. Henderson finished her round with two birdies, while Schaeffner tallied one. Henderson (75-78=153) tied for 27th overall as Schaeffner (76-78=154) finished tied for 29th.

Marissa Hinchman (81-80 =161, 52nd) rounded out the Chanticleer contingent.

The Chants return to the links on March 9 for the Purdue Mount Vintage Invitational contested at the Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club in North Augusta, S.C.
