SORRENTO, Fla. – Coastal Carolina sophomore Jessica Alexander shot a career-low 66 and finished tied for first place on the first day of the UCF Challenge from the RedTail Golf Club.

Alexander birdied six holes and shot and even-par on the other 12 holes and finished the afternoon six-under par on the par-72, 6,319-yard course. 

Her performance helped the Chanticleers end the day in second place with an overall score of 285.  Coastal trails overall leader Tulane by just one stroke entering the second day of the event. 

Senior Alicia Grier turned in three birdies and finished two strokes under par with a 70 and tied for sixth place.  Junior Kaitlin Higginbotham tied for 24th place after finishing with a score of 73.

Sophomore Brittany Henderson tied for 60th overall after shooting a 76, while freshman Courtney Boe posted a score of 77 and is tied for 68th place.

The tournament resumes Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
