SORRENTO, Fla. - Brittany Henderson finished tied for eighth overall to lead Coastal Carolina to a 12th-place finish at the UCF Challenge played on the 6,374-yard, par-72 Redtail Golf Club.

The event, which marked the opening of the spring season for the Chanticleers, was won by ninth-ranked North Carolina (287-278-289=854). No. 20 Tulane (288-293-290=871) finished second followed by host UCF (287-294-295=876). Coastal carded rounds of 302-300-301 for a 903 54-hole tally and a 12th-place finish in the 18-team field. The Chants finished ahead of 48th-ranked Missouri and 46th-ranked Oregon State.

Virginia's Briana Mao captured individual medalist honors as she finished the tournament 4-under par (70-69-73=212).

Henderson, the individual medalist at the 2012 Big South Championship, turned in a three-round score of 216 (70-73-73), finishing even for the tournament and tying for eighth in the 99-competitor field. The senior scored a 1-over 73 on the day and posted a total of 12 birdies throughout the tournament. The top-10 finish is Henderson's second of her senior campaign and 11th of her Chanticleer career.

Freshman Lena Schaeffner was Coastal's second finisher, tying for 54th with a 54-hole score of 228 (75-73-80). Schaeffner carded an 80 on her final round. She concluded the tournament playing 39 of her 54 holes at par or better.

Jessica Alexander tied for 70th overall (81-76-75=232). The senior was hampered by her first round 81, but shaved strokes off her previous round total each of the ensuing two rounds. She carded her tournament-best round of 75 over the final 18 holes. Alexander was even through 15 holes, bogeys on her final three holes led to her 3-over.

Marissa Hinchman also carded a 3-over 75 on the final round en route to tying for 73rd (76-82-75=233). Frida Castillo rounded out the Chanticleer contingent, tying for 87th with a three-day tally of 237 (81-78-78).

The Chants return to the links on Saturday, Feb. 23 for a one-day match against San Francisco at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
