Women's Basketball Reddick Earn Big South's Player Of The Week Honor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Coastal Carolina University's men's and women's basketball programs made it a clean sweep of the Big South Conference's Player of the Week awards for the week ending December 16. Junior Brandon Newby took home the honor on the men's side, while redshirt sophomore Nikki Reddick earned her second Women's Player of the Week honor this season.

Reddick simply continued doing what she has all season. The Hartsville, South Carolina native, who is averaging a League-leading 24.3 points per game, scored 21 points against Furman and 23 points in a victory over the College of Charleston. Reddick added three assists and three steals against Furman and topped that performance with eight boards, seven assists and four steals against the Lady Cougars. On the week, she averaged 23.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals.

Newby, a guard from Lanham, Maryland, made it back-to-back honors for the Coastal Carolina men as sophomore point guard Alvin Green won the award a week earlier. Newby returned to the court after missing a start due to a knee injury to score a career-high 25 points at Old Dominion. He connected on 6-of-13 3-pointers against the Monarchs, ranking him fourth on CCU's single game record list for most made treys in a contest. Overall, he connected on 9-of-18 shots and added five rebounds.

Reddick will begin work towards another Big South Player of the Week honor tonight at 5:30 p.m. when the Lady Chanticleers play at the University of South Carolina. That game can be heard live on the Chanticleer Radio Network on Sports Radio 1450 AM along the Grand Strand and around the world on Coastal's athletic web site (http://www.coastal.edu/athletics).

Newby will lead Coastal Carolina's men into the Chanticleers' second home on Friday night against Campbell University. The tip-off between the Chants and the Camels at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center will be 9:00 p.m. For the third consecutive season, Coastal Carolina will team with Grand Strand Helping Hand to offer free admission to the game with a monetary donation or the donation of canned goods.
