Adams Named Sun Belt Player of the Week
CONWAY - Senior guard Jas Adams has been named the Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday. It is the first conference player of the week honor in Adams’ career, and first for a Chanticleer student-athlete this season.
Adams averaged 22.5 points per game last week as she led Coastal to a pair of wins over Fort Wayne and North Carolina Central. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native was also the team’s leading shooter, finishing 55 percent (15-27) from the field, 61 percent (8-13) from beyond the arc and a perfect 7-7 from the line.
Adams started the week with a trio of career highs in an overtime win versus Fort Wayne, playing the full 45 minutes, scoring 29 points and draining seven baskets from 3-point range. She also scored eight of Coastal’s 11 points in the overtime period.
Adams played the entirety of the game against NCCU as well, scoring 16 points while shooting 50 percent from the field and making all three of her attempts from the line.
Through nine games Adams leads the Sun Belt in scoring (18.7 ppg) and playing time (36.1 mpg), and ranks fifth in both 3-pointers per game (2.4) and free throw percentage (83.9). She has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, including three games of 25 or more points.
Adams and the Chanticleers return to action on Sunday when they take on Syracuse as part of the Carolinas Challenge at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Convention Center the day of the game, and are $10 for general admission.
