Opening Tip Coastal Carolina (4-2, 0-0 Big South) is coming off of a home victory over Southern Conference rival College of Charleston, 57-53 on Wednesday night, Dec 2. Now, the Chanticleers return to road action by taking on Savannah State on Dec. 5 in Tiger Arena in Savannah, Ga. Despite not playing each other last season, the Tigers and Chants have met eight times, all within 2004-08.Coastal leads the Tigers 7-1 in the all-time series. This will be the first of two meetings between the teams this season, the next one Dec. 20 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center as part of the "Beach Ball Classic."
Scouting Savannah State
Savannah State is coming off of a one-point victory over Alabama State, 50-49 on Nov. 30. The Tigers have accumulated a 5-1 record at home this season, with Florida A&M being their only home loss of the season (41-38). Savannah State averages 57 points per game while holding its opponents to 44. The Tigers are a young team being led by sophomore 5-7 guard Crissa Jackson, (10.5 ppg., 4.5 asts.1.5 stls.) and freshman forward Darice Fountain also (10.0 ppg., 5.4 rpg., and 1.7 stls) 6-3 sophomore Alisha Nelson averages 1.5 blocks per game and leads the team with 7.3 rpg.
Coaching Match Up
Coastal Carolina Head Coach Alan LeForce enters his 13th season with the Chanticleers, and 27th as a collegiate coach. Savannah State Head Coach Cedric Baker is in his seventh with the Tigers, and his 17th year in the collegiate arena. LeForce earned his 180th win with the Chanticleers and Baker has 56 wins with the Tigers. The two have coached all eight times the two teams have played. Series vs. savannah state

Coastal Carolina and Savannah State have had a one-year hiatus from playing each other, after meeting previously twice in a season in the previous four years. The Chants lead the series 7-1, with their only loss coming in the 2006-07 season. Coastal has averaged 56.2 points per game against Savannah State.
Chants Get Big Win Over College of Charleston
On Dec. 2 , the Chanticleers outlasted in-state rival College of Charleston, 57-53. In the first half, the lead changed sxi times and the scored was tied three times. Coastal held on in the second half, but the Cougars never allowed the lead to grow to more than five points. Sydnei Moss hit a crucial jumper with 10 seconds left in the game that put the game away from the Cougars.
As Cold As Ice
The Chanticleers have shown that they have "ice running through their veins" when it comes to close games. In the three games this season that the score has been under 10 points, the Chants have gone 88 percent from the charity stripe in the final five minutes of the game. Sydnei Moss leads the Chants in pressure free-throw shooting by going 12-for-13 (92 percent) in the tight situations. In their most recent victory against College of Charleston, the Chants went 8-for-9 from the line in the final five minutes of the game. Amanda Stull went 4-for-5 herself in the five minutes at the end of the game.
Put it In the Books
Senior Amanda Stull has made her mark in the Coastal Carolina history books by cracking the all-time top-ten record for steals. Stull passed Michelle Minton during the College of Charleston game and is ranked seventh place on the list with 175 steals. She is behind Sandra Leach in sixth with 179 career-steals.
Coastal Defeats Coker for the 35th Time in History
The Chanticleers defeated Coker 81-46 on Sunday, Nov. 29 for the 35th time in the history of both programs. The Chanticleers have never lost to the Cobras. Sophomore guard Olivia Irick had the game-high in scoring with 16 points and taking away three steals. Also tallying double figures was Sydnei Moss with 14 points and Amanda Stull adding 13. Moss led the team in rebounding with seven as Devin Rivers corralled six boards.
Three's Company
Senior Amanda Stull is ranked third in the nation with a 66.7 three-point percentage. The team has also made its way into the rankings in the same category by ranking 16th with .424 three-point percentage.
Chants Take Third Place in Great Alaska Shootout
Coastal Carolina came in third place in the Great Alaska Shootout at Anchorage, Alaska on Nov. 24 and 25. The Chants fell in their first game to host Alaska Anchorage 89-47. The Seawolves shot 54.1 percent from the field, as Coastal was held to a 28.8 shooting percentage. Juniors Sydnei Moss and Jessica Noll led the Chanticleers with 10 points apiece, and Noll grabbed a team-high six rebounds. In a much improved second game, the Chanticleers beat Western Carolina, 72-64. Moss had a team-high 17 points, while Katie Ahaus sparked the team by adding 14 points and three assists.
Ahaus Sparks the Chants over Western Carolina
Transfer junior Katie Ahaus was a main factor in the Chanticleers 72-64 win over the Western Carolina Catamounts. Ahaus scored 10 points in the first half . Ahaus continued her tough play by hitting a jumper that gave the Chanticleers the biggest lead of the game, 59-46, with eight minutes remaining in the second half. Ahaus was awarded the Carrs/Safeway Player of the Game.
Moss Named to All-Tournament Team
Junior Sydnei Moss was named to the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team after leading the Chanticleers in points both nights of play. Moss scored 10 points in the loss to Alaska Anchorage and scored 17 points in the win over Western Carolina. Moss also grabbed for 10 rebounds throughout the tournament.
No. 4 North Carolina Hands Chanticleers their First Loss
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers had a strong first half against the No. 4/4 ranked North Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The Chanticleers grabbed the lead in the first half at with six minutes left, 20-19. The Tar Heels got the lead back shortly after and kept it going into the half, 33-25. North Carolina came out in the second half scoring 17 unanswered points, which the Chanticleers could not answer. Redshirt-senior Elizabeth Weaver finished the game strong for the Chanticleers scoring a career-high 14 points. Sydnei Moss added 13 rebounds, and Devin Rivers finished with a season-high eight points and four rebounds.
Stull and Moss Duo Help the Chants Win Over Campbell
Amanda Stull and Sydnei Moss combined for 45 points against Campbell on Nov.. 16, 66-59. The two scored 68 percent of the points in the game for the Chanticleers. Stull had the game-high 23 points, while Moss followed with 22, tying her career high. Stull went 5-for-6 in the first half from behind the three-point arc, and Moss was perfect on eight crucial foul shots in the last three minutes of the game.
Stull Named Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Coastal Carolina University women's basketball senior Amanda Stull garnered the Choice Hotels Big South Women's Basketball of the Week for the week of Nov. 17. Stull averaged 21.0 points in two games played, shooting .577 percent from the field and .714 from beyond the arc. She also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 6.0 steals per game. In the 89-20 win over Southern Virginia on Friday, Nov. 13, Stull had 19 points, shooting 5-for-6 from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the field. Stull dished out four assists, two blocks and grabbed a career-high eight steals. Stull continued her strong play in the 66-59 win at Campbell on Monday, Nov. 16 by shooting 5-for-6 from beyond the arc in the first half and totaling a game-high 23 points. Stull also grabbed eight rebounds and four steals.
Ahaus in the House
Transfer-junior Katie Ahaus had a strong first appearance in a Chanticleer uniform by dishing eight assists, six points, four steals and two rebounds in the home opener against Southern Virginia.
Bench Shows Strength
The Chanticleer bench scored 44 points in the win against Southern Virginia. Redshirt-sophomore Courtney Grambley led the Chanticleers with five rebounds, which included three offensive grabs. Sophomore Olivia Irick led the bench with 17 points and five steals.
Oh Captain, My Captain After having no seniors on the 2008-09 roster, the 2009-10 roster is opposite and has four seniors leading this year's squad. Amanda Stull, Devin Rivers and Elizabeth Weaver have been Chanticleers all four years, while Kendra Reynolds has been here for two but will be looked at to be a vocal leader on the team.
All Aboard!!! For the fourth consecutive season, Coastal Carolina will have the same assistant coaches on the bench that combine 20 years between them. Frank Moorhead is in his eighth season with the Chants, Mark Kost starts his seventh season and Shameka Montgomery begins her fifth season as assistant coaches for the Chanticleers. This staff has put together a squad that has gone 52-33 (.612) in the past three seasons.
Blocking Back
Coastal Carolina returns its top three shot blockers from last season. Sophomore Katie White, who stands at 6-foot-3, led the Chants last season, denying 47 shots. White immediately jumped again into the Coastal Carolina record books, holding the fourth spot for most blocks in a single season while holding the sixth spot with 41 blocks in the 2007-08 season. Juniors Devin Rivers and Kendra Reynolds followed suit, combining for16 blocks.
Hitting the Boards
Junior Sydnei Moss led Coastal last season in rebounds by grabbing 7.0 per game. She ranked fifth in the Big South with the grabs. Additionally, senior Amanda Stull posted 5.9 per game and ranking 13th in the league. Despite only playing in 21 games, Kendra Reynolds posted 6.1 grabs in the season.
Stull-erific!
Junior Amanda Stull has played in every game but one for the Chanticleers since stepping foot on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. During her freshman year, Stull entered all 29 contests for the Chants, averaging 20.2 minutes per game. In the 2007-08 season, Stull became an important piece of the puzzle, starting all 28 games and improved her statistics in several categories including points (6.3 ppg), assists (2.4 apg) and rebounds (3.9 rpg). Last season, Stull played in all but one game due to flu symptoms, and finished the season with 9.9 ppg, 2.9 apg, and 5.9 rpg.
Chants Welcome Ahaus
The Chanticleers welcome newcomer to the team in transfer Katie Ahaus, a junior transfer played two season at Vincennes University scored 10.2 points last season and had 76 percent and 2.2 assists per game in 2008-09. She played in all 35 games for the Lady Trailblazers.
Chants Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll
The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team was selected to finish fourth in the Big South Preseason poll announced by the league Oct. 13 at Charlotte, N.C. The poll is voted by the league's coaches and media members. The Chanticleers received a total of 101 points, putting them ahead of Charleston Southern. For the first time in Big South history, Liberty and High Point were picked to finish in the top spot in the conference, each receiving 160 points. Gardner-Webb was picked to finish ahead of the Chanticleers in third by receiving four first-place votes. Rounding out the poll are Winthrop, Radford, UNC Asheville and Presbyterian. Garnering Preseason Player of the Year honors is High Point junior Jurica Hargraves. Also, selected to the preseason team was Mackenzie Maier of High Point, Margaret Roundtree and Dominique Hudson of Gardner-Webb, and Kymesha Alston of Radford.
All Coastal Carolina Games To Be Broadcast On the Internet
For the third straight year, the Coastal Carolina University women's basketball team will broadcast every regular-season and postseason game. Beginning with the season opener Nov. 13 against Southern Virginia, all 28 regular season games and postseason contests will be available at www.GoCCUsports.com. The broadcasts will start 10 minutes prior to tip off. Describing the action, will be Chris Burgin, who enters his third year as "The Voice of Chanticleers Women's Basketball." Burgin came to Coastal Carolina after spending the previous eight years as play-by-play voice for Big South Conference rival Presbyterian College. During his tenure with the Blue Hose, Burgin handled the broadcasts for football, men's and women's basketball, along with baseball and softball. He was behind the microphone when the PC football team won the South Atlantic Conference championship and recorded the school's first NCAA football playoff appearance in 2005. Burgin was also witness to a Division II "Sweet 16" trip by the men's basketball team in 2003 and numerous appearances in the postseason by the women's basketball squad. Burgin, a 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina, is currently employed by SportsRadio 1410 WPCC in Clinton. In addition, every postseason game, beginning with the 2009 Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament March 12-14 in High Point, N.C., will be broadcast on both www.GoCCUSports.com and THE TEAM 93.9 FM in Myrtle Beach.
Big South To Video Stream All Women's Basketball Conference Games
Coastal Carolina will video stream all home games this season on The Big South Network, the Big South's streaming website. Coastal Carolina will also have every game of the Big South schedule on network as well as complete coverage of the 2010 Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament in High Point, N.C. The video stream of women's basketball games and all Big South events, which will also be available on a video-ondemand basis for subscribers of The Big South Network, requires a high-speed internet connection (DSL, cable or above), Microsoft Windows Media Player 9.0 or greater downloaded and installed, and a screen resolution of 800x600 or greater, among other requirements. An annual subscription of The Big South Network costs $79.95 and runs one year from the date of sign-up and includes live sporting events and championships, interviews and exclusive access to on-demand video and features.

Converse is off to a 0-5 start to the 2009-10 season and have been battling with the injury bug and losing two crucial players. Most recently, the Valkyries lost to Pfieffer 79-49 on Tuesday, December 1st. Senior Ashley Arff led the Valkyries in scoring against Pfieffer with 13 points. Coastal has a perfect 5-0 record in the series against Converse. The last time the two teams met was in 2007-08 season with the Chants on t op 89-39.
