Women's Basketball Sign First Recruit

CONWAY, SC -- Coastal Carolina women’s basketball coach Alan LeForce announced the signing of his first recruit of the year today, inking Carrie Jones to play the 2002-03 season. Jones, a 5-foot-6 guard from Morristown, Tenn. averaged 16 points, four rebounds and four assists per game for Morristown West High School as a junior, leading the Trojans to a 32-5 record, as well as the District and Regional Championships on their way to the TSSAA Final Four.

Jones hit 54 percent of her shots from the field and 91 percent from the line as she was named the NET and Lakeway Co-Player of the Year, earning All-Conference, All-Region and All-East Tennessee honors along the way. She was also named to the TSSAA and Citizen Tribune All-Tournament Teams.

“Carrie is going to be a great addition to our family,” Coach LeForce said. “She comes from a tremendous high school program, and should be able to step in and contribute immediately. With the coaching she has received, she already possesses a good understanding of the way the game is played on the next level, and will help add quality depth for us on the perimeter.”

As a sophomore, Jones averaged 10 points, four assists and three rebounds as the Trojans went 28-4, being named All-Conference, All-Region and All-East Tennessee as the team again won District and Regional Championships.
