Stull Earns Big South Player of the Week Honor
Junior Amanda Stull was named Big South Player of the Week, the League announced Monday, Nov. 24. It is Stull’s first-ever Player of the Week honor, after being named Freshman of the Week twice during her rookie campaign. Stull posted a solid week for the Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team as she averaged 14.3 points per game to lead Coastal Carolina to three wins. She connected on 50-percent of her shots from the floor as she hit 14-of-28 tries. Stull was in double-digits in scoring in all three games and hit 15-of-17 attempts from the charity stripe, including an 8-of-8 performance against Wofford. She also finished the week with 19 rebounds, including 11 caroms against Jacksonville on Nov. 22. The guard closed the three-game span with seven assists and eight steals. 

From Start to Finish
Coastal Carolina’s starting lineup is putting up some significant numbers in the early going of the season. Four of the five starters are averaging over 28 minutes a game. Juniors Amanda Stull and Devin Rivers and sophomores Sydnei Moss and Kate Jasinski are producing 70 percent of the Chanticleers’ scoring. Add on sophomore Jessica Noll’s three starts and classmate Katie White’s first game of the season, six players have tallied 78 percent of the Chants points in the first four games. 

Blocking Back
Coastal Carolina returned its top three blockers from last season. Sophomore Katie White, who stands at 6-foot-3, returned to the floor after missing the first three games due to illness, and rejected two shots against Jacksonville (Nov. 22). Juniors Devin Rivers and Amanda Stull followed White last season ,combining for 28 blocks, and the duo has registered three of the Chants nine blocks this year. 

White Returns to Lineup
Sophomore Katie White missed the first three games due to illness, but made her first start against Jacksonville Saturday, Nov. 22. White went 3-for-3 from the field for six points, pulled down seven rebounds and added two blocks for the Chants. 

Flying First Half
Coastal Carolina has led at the half in three of its first four games. The Chanticleers are averaging 29 points in the first half and limiting their opponents to 21.8 points in the opening frame. Wofford edged out the Chants in the opening period 32-30. 

Hitting the Boards
Graduated senior Vicky Blanchard led the Chanticleers the past two seasons in rebounds, and of course Blanchard’s 6.6 rebounds will be missed. However, sophomores Sydnei Moss (8.5 rpg) and Katie White (7.0 rpg) and juniors Amanda Stull (7.5 rpg) and Devin Rivers (7.3 rpg) have taken the reigns over quite nicely. 

Stull Accepts Charity
Junior Amanda Stull is 15-of-17 (88.2%) from the charity stripe this season. Stull did not go the line in the season opener against Erskine (Nov. 14), but has been outstanding in the past three games shooting 88.2 percent from the free throw line. Stull was a perfect 8-for-8 from the line at Wofford (Nov. 19). 

Offensive Glass Glowing Difference
The Chanticleers outrebounded Erskine (+22) and Jacksonville (+19), but lost the battle on the glass vs. Campbell (-8) and Wofford (-18). The Chants rebounding margin is +3.8, but hold a glaring advantage on the offensive glass pulling down 56 rebounds to their opponents 40 boards. Juniors Devin Rivers and Amanda Stull have combined for 27 offensive boards. 

Rookie Roundup
Freshman Olivia Irick came off the bench to lead all scorers with 16 points against Erskine and is averaging 6.0 points per game for the Chanticleers. Freshman Taylor Epley has been consistent for Coastal Carolina going 2-for-3 from the free throw line. 

Chanticleers Topple Jacksonville 63-44
Junior Amanda Stull scored 13 of her game-high 16 points in the first half, leading the Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team a 63-44 victory over Jacksonville (Nov.22). Stull matched a career-high with 16 points and picked up 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Junior Devin Rivers had 13 points while sophomore Sydnei Moss added 11 points for the Chants. Sophomore Katie White was in action for the first time this season and picked up six points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Coastal Carolina dominated the glass outrebounding the Dolphins 46 to 27, including 33 defensive boards.

Junior Amanda Stull has played in every game for the Chanticleers since stepping foot on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. Stull got her 32nd consecutive starting nod against Jacksonville. Last season, Stull became an important piece of the puzzle, starting all 28 games recording career bests in several categories including points (6.3 ppg), assists (2.4 apg) and rebounds (3.9 rpg). During her freshman year, Stull entered all 29 contests for the Chants, averaging 20.2 minutes per game. 

Moss Sets Career High
Sophomore Sydnei Moss scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Chanticleers to a 67-64 win at Wofford (Nov. 19). Moss tallied 17 of her 22 points in the second half, hitting 6-of-11 shots from the floor and added a team-best eight rebounds. 

Free-For-All Gives the Chants a 67-64 Win At Wofford
Coastal Carolina went 25-for-29 at the free throw line in the 67-64 win over Wofford (Nov. 19). The Chanticleers shot 86.2 percent from the line, while Wofford shot 50 percent (14-28). Junior Amanda Stull was 8-of-8, while sophomore Sydnei Moss went 9-for-12 from the charity stripe. Redshirt freshman Courtney Grambley was 4-of-4 and sophomore Jessica Noll hit both her free throws when she stepped up to the line. 

Turnovers=Points
Coastal Carolina forced Campbell to turn the ball over 29 times, which led to 29 Chanticleer points as they defeated the Camels 52-50 (Nov. 17). Coastal Carolina scored 17 of its 19 first half points off of Campbell’s 21 turnovers.  

Stull Switches Gears, Leads Chants to 52-50 Win Over Campbell
Junior Amanda Stull scored a driving layup with 46 seconds remaining in the game to put the Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (2-0) up for good as it squeezed out a 52-50 victory over Campbell (1-1) Monday, Nov. 17 at Kimbel Arena. Stull went 6-of-8 in the second half to score all of her 13 points. Sophomore Kate Jasinski scored a game-high 14 points and added five assists, while sophomore Sydnei Moss picked up eight rebounds in the win.

LeForce Earns 400th Career Win
With the 65-49 win over Erskine Friday, Nov. 14, Coastal Carolina Head Coach Alan LeForce earned his 400th career win. LeForce is in his 12th season as the Chanticleers’ mentor and has compiled a 160-150 record at Coastal Carolina and a 400-330 overall record in 25 seasons as a head coach. LeForce is the all-time winningest women’s basketball coach in Coastal Carolina history and is the only coach to win 100 games in both Division I men’s and women’s basketball.

Bench Blasts Erskine
The Coastal Carolina bench outscored Erskine’s reserves 23-5 in the season opener, en route to a 65-49 victory for the Chants. Freshman Olivia Irick earned 16 points for the Chants in 17 minutes of play. Redshirt sophomore Lauren Grochowski had five points, while redshirt freshman Courtney Grambley had two points in the win.

Chants Send Fleet Flying with 65-49 Win
Junior Devin Rivers and sophomore Sydnei Moss recorded double-doubles to lead the Chanticleers to a 65-49 win over Erskine Nov. 14. Rivers had 12 points and matched a personal best grabbing 10 rebounds. Moss tallied 12 points and collected a career-high 13 rebounds. Coastal Carolina led by as many as 21 points in the first half. Up 52-37 in the second half, Erskine strung together the next eight points, cutting the deficit to seven points at 52-45 with 8:07 remaining, but Coastal Carolina went on a 13-3 run to close out the game. The Chanticleers out-rebounded Erskine 55-33 and had 23 second chance points, while the Flying Fleet had five. The win moved the Chanticleers to 18-17 in season openers and 10-1 in lidlifters under Head Coach Alan LeForce.

S-E-N-I-O-R-S?
Coastal Carolina’s 2008-09 roster lists no seniors. This is the first time in Head Coach Alan LeForce’s 12 years he will be missing that senior leadership. However, the 2008-09 squad is rich in talent and experience. LeForce believes this is one of the most talented groups he and his staff have ever assembled at Coastal Carolina.

All Aboard!!!
For the fourth consecutive season, Coastal Carolina will have the same coaching staff on the bench. Head Coach Alan LeForce enters his 12th season at the helm for the Chants. All assistant coaches return with Frank Moorhead starting his seventh season, Mark Kost begins his sixth and Shameka Montgomery starts her fourth year. This staff has put together a squad that has gone 53-33 (.616) in the past three seasons.

New Faces
The Chanticleers welcome four newcomers to the team in transfers Kendra Reynolds and Lindsey Waters and freshmen Taylor Epley and Olivia Irick. Reynolds, a junior transfer from Olney Central JC, will sit out the first half of the season due to NCAA regulations and Waters will miss the entire season after transferring from Eastern Kentucky. Epley and Irick will look to transition to the college game and contribute this season. 

Chants Tabbed Sixth in Preseason Poll
The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team has been picked to tie for sixth place in this season’s Big South Conference Preseason Poll, the conference announced at Media Day Tuesday, Oct. 14 in Concord, N.C. The poll was voted on by the league’s coaches and selected media members. Liberty, the 2008 Big South Champion, was the clear preseason favorite after receiving 17 of 19 first-place votes and 169 points. Winthrop was predicted second with 143 points and High Point placed third with 129 points. Radford earned one first-place vote, landing in fourth spot with 116 points, followed by UNC Asheville who edged out the Chanticleers with 75 points. Coastal Carolina and Gardner-Webb each tallied 73 points, while Charleston Southern (55 points) and Presbyterian (22 points) were voted eighth and ninth, respectively. For the third consecutive year, Liberty’s Megan Frazee was selected as the Preseason Player of the year and to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Frazee is joined by teammate Moriah Frazee, Ashley Fann (Winthrop), Pamela Tolbert (Charleston Southern) and Johnette Walker (Radford) as preseason All-Conference selections.

All Coastal Carolina Games To Be Broadcast On the Internet
For the second straight year, the Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team will broadcast every regular-season and postseason game. Beginning with the season opener Nov. 14 against Erskine, all 28 regular season games and postseason contests will be available at ww.GoCCUsports.com. The broadcasts will start 10 minutes prior to tipoff. Describing the action will be Chris Burgin, who enters his second year as “The Voice of Chanticleers Women’s Basketball.” Burgin came to Coastal Carolina after spending the previous eight years as play-by-play voice for Big South Conference rival Presbyterian College. During his tenure with the Blue Hose, Burgin handled the broadcasts for football, men’s and women’s basketball, along with baseball and softball. He was behind the microphone when the PC football team won the South Atlantic Conference championship and recorded the school’s first NCAA football playoff appearance in 2005. Burgin was also witness to a Division II “Sweet 16” trip by the men’s basketball team in 2003 and numerous appearances in the postseason by the women’s basketball squad. Burgin, a 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina, is currently employed by SportsRadio 1410 WPCC in Clinton. In addition, every postseason game, beginning with the 2009 Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament March 12 in High Point, N.C., will be broadcast on both ww.GoCCUsports.com and THE TEAM 93.9 FM in Myrtle Beach.

Big South To Video Stream All Women’s Basketball Conference Games
Coastal Carolina will video stream all home games this season on THE EDGE, the Big South’s streaming website. Coastal Carolina will also have every game of the Big South schedule on THE EDGE as well as complete coverage of the 2009 Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament in High Point, N.C. The video stream of women’s basketball games and all Big South events, which will also be available on a video-ondemand basis for subscribers of The EDGE, requires a high-speed internet connection (DSL, cable or above), Microsoft Windows Media Player 9.0 or greater downloaded and installed, and a screen resolution of 800x600 or greater, among other requirements. An annual subscription of The EDGE costs $79.95 and runs one year from the date of sign-up and includes live sporting events and championships, interviews and exclusive access to on-demand video and features.

The Knights are 4-0 this season with victories over Virginia Intermont, Virginia Wise, Penn State-Fayette and Penn State-Greater Allegheny. Southern Virginia dropped a 107-36 decision to Furman in an exhibition game this season. Junior Tricia Dixon is averaging 26 points and leads the Knights in three- point shooting this season shooting 47.4 percent from behind the arc.
