CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women’s basketball team scored the final six points in the final minute of the game to down Wofford in a 59-58 thriller in the 2007-08 season opener, Sunday afternoon at Kimbel Arena, Nov. 11. Freshman Sydnei Moss scored on an offensive rebound and stole the ensuing inbound pass, finding senior Vicky Blanchard who connected on two of her game-high 18 points with 11 seconds remaining to give the Lady Chanticleers the victory.
Coastal’s defense limited Wofford to just 5-of-25 shooting in the first half en route to a 30-22 Lady Chant advantage at the break. Wofford scored the first 14 points of the second half and used an 21-4 run to establish a 43-34 lead with
Other then Blanchard, Coastal as a team shot just 12-of-52 (.230) from the field and connected on 13-of-17 (76.5 percent) from the charity stripe. Blanchard shot 8-of-11 from the field and added a team-high nine rebounds to lead Coastal. Sophomore Lacey Lyons scored 16 points off 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc.
Wofford was limited to just 31.5 percent (17-of-54) for the contests, but drained 21 of 30 trips to the free throw line. Kelsi Koenig led the Terriers with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Chants will return to the hardwood, Wednesday, Nov. 14 hosting the
