CONWAY, S.C. Coastal Carolina University Head Women's Basketball Coach Alan LeForce announced on Monday the hiring of Frank Moorhead as assistant coach.
Moorhead brings 20 years of coaching experience to the Lady Chanticleer basketball program after coaching the past two decades with three different high schools in the Myrtle Beach area.
Moorhead comes to Coastal Carolina after serving last season as Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at North Myrtle Beach High School. Prior to his stint at North Myrtle Beach H.S., Moorhead was the Head Boys Coach at Carolina Forest High School where he led the team to a 14-5 record for the 1997-98 season.
Moorhead began his coaching career at North Myrtle Beach H.S. as the Head Girls Basketball Coach in 1980. In 17 years as the head coach of the Lady Chiefs, he compiled a record of 360-80 as well as being named Conference Coach-of-the-Year five times and The Sun News Coach-of-the-Year four times. His teams were conference champions six times (1990-96) and also made eight appearances in the state high school playoffs including a runner-up finish in 1990.
Frank will be a great asset to our program, said LeForce. He is well known in the state of South Carolina and will be a great recruiter for us in-state. We are happy to welcome his knowledge and expertise to Coastal Carolina.
A 1978 graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in elementary education, Moorhead currently is a social studies teacher at the Academy for Arts, Science, and Technology in Horry County.
