2014-15 Women's Basketball Schedule Announced
CONWAY - The 41st season of Coastal Carolina University women's basketball will tip off on Nov. 14 against UNC Pembroke at The HTC Center, as part of the Chanticleers' 2014-15 schedule announced by second-year head coach Jaida Williams on Wednesday. Coastal's non-conference home slate also includes home games against Pfeiffer, Barber-Scotia, IPFW, Marshall, Johnson & Wales and North Carolina Central.
"As a staff, we are excited to announce our schedule for the 2014-15 season," said Williams. "Our goal for this schedule was to play as many games in our arena as possible since we do host the Big South Championship in March. I feel like we accomplished that goal with a good mix of challenging opponents."
Including the season-opener against UNC Pembroke, the Chants play five straight home games before leaving the friendly confines of The HTC Center for the first time to travel to Furman on Dec. 3. Home games against Johnson & Wales (Dec. 4) and North Carolina Central (Dec. 17) bookend the Chants' first Big South Conference game of the season - a road trip to the Old Dominion state to take on Radford (Dec. 13).
Coastal will play its final non-conference contest against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Dec. 21 in the Chants' annual game as part of the CresCom Bank Carolinas Challenge at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The Chanticleers fully enter into conference play after the Christmas holiday, beginning on Dec. 30 at home against High Point. Coastal's January games at The HTC Center include Liberty (Jan. 8), Presbyterian (Jan. 10), Winthrop (Jan. 17), Campbell (Jan. 20) and Gardner-Webb (Jan. 27). The Chants' February home Big South games are Radford (Feb. 5), Longwood (Feb. 14) and Charleston Southern (Feb. 17) and UNC Asheville (Feb. 28).
Coastal concludes its regular season of play at home on Feb. 28 against UNC Asheville. For the third year the VistiMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championship will be hosted at The HTC Center on the Chanticleers' campus. The women's first round games will be held March 3, followed by quarterfinals on March 5, semifinals on March 7 and the championship game on March 8. The winner advances to the NCAA Tournament, which begins March 20.
