Women's Basketball Adds Waters to the Recruiting Class

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team and head coach Alan LeForce have announced the signing of forward/center Lindsey Waters (Stearns, Ky./McCreary Central (Eastern Kentucky)), announced today (June 12). Waters will have to sit out the 2008-09 season due to the NCAA transfer rule, but will have three seasons of eligibility at CCU.   The 6-1 Waters played one season at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky., averaging 4.0 point, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 block per game for the Lady Colonels. She had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds against Alabama State Dec. 2 and had three blocked shots against Austin Peay Feb. 28. Waters shot 36.5 percent from the field and had 21 steals in 28 games.    Waters went to McCreary Central High School in Stearns, Ky., and was a two-time Honorable Mention All-Kentucky selection and the 12th Region Player of the Year in 2007 for the Raiders. She is McCreary Central’s all-time leading scorer at 2,074 points and was a four-time All-District selection. Waters averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior and added 104 blocked shots. As a junior, she averaged 19.7 points and 8.6 rebounds a contest. She broke her mother’s record for points in a single game with 46 her junior year.   “Lindsey is a good athlete,” LeForce said. “She was a scorer in high school and started 24 of 28 games at Eastern Kentucky. She can run the floor, is left handed and has a range of about 15 to 18 feet. She’ll have a year to improve and get stronger and when she becomes eligible to play, she will be a great addition to the program.”   Waters joins Taylor Epley (Newburgh, Ind./Castle), Olivia Irick (Columbia, S.C./Keenan) and Kendra Reynolds (South Bend, Ind./Riley (Olney Central J.C.)) in the 2008-09 signing class for Coastal women’s basketball.   Coastal ended the 2007-08 season with a 16-12 record and will return eight letterwinners to next year’s squad.
