Women's Basketball Signs Blanchard to National Letter-of-Intent

CONWAY, S.C. –The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball program has announced the signing of Victoria Blanchard (Eutawville, S.C./Walters State C.C.) to a national letter-of-intent, head coach Alan LeForce announced May 16. Blanchard joins Lauren Grochowski (Naperville, Ill./Central), Lacey Lyons (Beverly Hills, Fla./Crystal River), Devin Rivers (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela), Amanda Stull (Rushville, Ind./Rushville Consolidated) and Lori Whitaker (Bloomington, Ind./North) in the 2006-07 signing class.

Blanchard, a 5-9 guard, spent two seasons at Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tenn., where she helped the Lady Senators to a Region VII championship in 2005. Blanchard was a Second Team All-Tennessee Junior and Community College Athetic Association (TJCCAA) honoree this past season. She also was a Region VII All-Tournament team selection and an All-Eastern Division Team member in 2005. Blanchard joins recent Chanticleers Demaria Young and Cyndie Troutman in making the move from Walters State to Coastal Carolina.

Blanchard went to high school at Holly Hill-Roberts High School in Holly Hill, S.C. She was the Most Valuable Player for the Bulldogs her senior season and earned the team’s Sportsmanship Award. Blanchard was a First Team Orangeburg All-Area selection and was the school’s Female Athlete of the Year her junior season.

"Victoria should bring maturity and experience to our team," LeForce said. "With our returning players and our freshman class coming in, she should blend in very well. Victoria is a good rebounder and a good scorer. We expect she is going to come in and do a lot of good things for us."

Coastal is coming of an 18-10 season and a semifinal berth in the 2006 Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament. The Chanticleers will return three starters to the 2006-07 squad.
