“One of the things we were looking to do was add depth to the team, and with these two players we are doing so in the one and two positions,” LeForce said. “Angelica Henry is a freshman that will add quickness and versatility to the one and two position. Kira Carter is an experienced guard, who has a lot of familiarity playing at the point and the wing.”

Carter, a 5-7 guard, averaged 15.6 points and 2.8 assists per game at Wabash Valley College in 2009-10. While there, she earned All-Great Rivers Conference First Team and All-Region 24 First Team honors. Previous to her time at Wabash Valley, Carter played in 28 games for Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., in 2008-09. In high school, Carter lettered all four years at North Central and was a member of the 2005 Class 4A IHSAA state champion and conference champion teams her junior and senior years.

Henry, a 5-5 guard, averaged 17.5 points and 3.4 steals per game, Arsenal Technical in Indianapolis, Ind., almost one three-point field goal and 84 free-throws made in 21 games played her senior year. She was fifth in scoring in the Indianapolis area games through March 6, according to the Indystar.com. She also played for the Indy Wildcats girl’s summer basketball program.

Carter and Henry join Katelyn Connor (Ashland, Ky./Paul Blazer), Kayla Cook (Jeannette, Pa./Jeannette), Shanika Maddox (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) and Alexx Puckett (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) in the 2010-11 signing class.

“With this signing class, we added good size and speed,” LeForce commented. “I believe they will help us move up in our conference. On paper it is a great class, and we will see what is to come in the years to follow.”

The Chanticleers finished the 2009-10 season 17-13 overall and 7-9 in the Big South. In the Big South Tournament, the Chants defeated Charleston Southern in the quarterfinals, 52-44, making it to the semifinals for the first time since 2005-06.
