CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina standout AJ Jordan was named to the Big South's All-Academic Team as voted on by the league's sports information directors, the league announced today.
Jordan holds a team-high 3.558 GPA as a communications major. The 5-foot-8 shooting guard has started every game this season. She finished the regular season tied for second on the team with 9.6 points per game average. Her team-high 40.9 shooting percentage is good for eighth in the Big South, while her 5.8 boards per game ranks 18th. The Coalfield, Tenn., native has led Coastal in the scoring column on nine occasions, including her career-high 21-point performance against Charleston Southern on Jan. 5. She notched her first career double-double with a 10-point, 12-assist effort against Southern Virginia. She then picked up a traditional double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds at Longwood.
In her Chanticleer career, Jordan has garnered Dean's List honors in both the fall 2011 and spring 2012 semester. She was also named a member of the 2012-13 Big South Presidential Honor Roll.
Winthrop junior Dequesha McClanahan has been tabbed the conference's Player of the Year for the second-straight year, while Presbyterian College head coach Ronny Fisher has been voted the 2012-13 Coach of the Year, by the league's head coaches and media panel. The voting panel voted Winthrop center Schaquilla Nunn Freshman of the Year. High Point center Cheyenne Parker was voted the League's Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season and Karlee Taylor of Presbyterian College was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The eighth-seeded Chanticleers will take on ninth-seeded Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 in the final first round game of the 2012 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South basketball Championships held at The HTC Center, the Chanticleers' home arena.
