CONWAY - The seedings and pairings for next week's 2014 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championships, hosted at The HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University, have been determined following the conclusion of the conference's regular-season schedule Saturday evening. The Coastal Carolina men secured the South Division title and No. 1 seed, while the Chanticleer women will play from the sixth overall seed.

The Chanticleer men, who finished the season with a 18-12 overall record and 11-5 league mark, will play the winner of Campbell-Charleston Southern on Friday, March 7 at 6 p.m.

Coastal holds a 14-23 all-time record in the Big South Tournament dating back to the 1985-86 season. The Chanticleers have won the tournament three times but not since 1993. Coastal also won the tournament in `90 and `91. Last season the fourth-seeded Chanticleers lost to the No. 5 seed out of the North Liberty 78-61 in the first round.

The Championship will begin Wednesday, March 5 with four first round games.  No. 4 South seed Winthrop will play No. 5 North seed and defending champion Liberty at 12:00pm, while No. 3 North seed Radford meets No. 6 South seed Presbyterian College at 2:00pm.  In the evening session, No. 4 North seed Campbell will play No. 5 South seed Charleston Southern at 6:00pm, with No. 3 South seed Gardner-Webb facing No. 6 North seed Longwood at 8:00pm.  Wednesday’s winners will advance to Friday’s quarterfinal round.

High Point (16-13, 12-4 Big South) is the No. 1 North seed after winning the outright North Division championship for the second consecutive year.  The Panthers will open against the winner of Winthrop-Liberty on March 7 at 12:00pm.

No. 2 South seed UNC Asheville begins its postseason against the winner of Radford-Presbyterian College Friday at 2:00pm. VMI is the No. 2 North seed for the second-straight year and plays the winner of Gardner-Webb-Longwood Friday night at 8:00pm.

High Point’s 12-4 record in League play clinched the outright regular-season championship and overall No. 1 seed to secure the Big South’s automatic bid to the NIT should the Panthers not win the Conference Tournament.

The women’s team closed the regular season with a 14-15 overall record and 10-10 in conference play to earn the sixth seed. The Chants take on 11th-seeded Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4. The winner advances to play third-seeded Winthrop at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 6.

Coastal swept the regular season series from the Buccaneers, claiming a 77-63 win at Charleston Southern on Jan. 18 and an 85-70 victory at The HTC Center on Feb. 20. Overall, the Coastal and Charleston Southern have played 84 times with the Chanticleers holding a 49-34 advantage. Coastal is 2-1 against the Buccaneers in the Big South tournament, claiming victories in the 2000 and 2003 tournament.

High Point won its second overall and first Big South women’s basketball regular-season championship since the 2006-07 season to secure the No. 1 seed in next week’s VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Women’s Basketball Championship. Liberty and Winthrop finished the season with identical 15-5 Conference records.  The Lady Flames swept the season series to break the tie and earn the No. 2 seed as the Eagles picked up the No. 3 seed. Campbell earned the No. 4 seed with a 13-7 record in conference action.  Gardner-Webb came in at the No. 5 spot with an 11-9 Big South record, ahead of Coastal Carolina who finished the conference season at 10-10.  Presbyterian College earned the No. 7 seed with a 9-11 record in conference play. UNC Asheville is the No. 8 seed as it posted a 7-13 Big South record.  Radford and Longwood posted 5-15 conference records.  Radford earned the No. 9 seed via the tie-breaker procedure to give Longwood the No. 10 seed. Charleston Southern rounds out the seeds with a 4-16 league record.
