Women's Basketball seeded Seventh in Advance Auto Parts Big South Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Big South Conference tonight announced the pairings for the 2002 Advance Auto Parts Big South Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, Feb. 27-March 2, 2002 in Roanoke, Va.

For the fifth consecutive year, Liberty will hold the number one seed. The Lady Flames have been the regular season champions since the 1997-1998 season and the tournament champions since 1996-1997. Liberty (13-1 Big South) will play eighth-seeded UNC Asheville (1-13) at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 27 in the first round of the tournament.

Elon will claim the second seed for the second straight year. The Phoenix (10-4) will face seventh-seeded Coastal Carolina (5-9) at 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 27. Radford (8-6) will be the third seed and will face sixth-seeded Winthrop (6-8) at 9:00 p.m. on Feb. 27. High Point (7-7), the fourth seed for this year’s tournament, will play Charleston Southern, the fifth seed, at 2:00 p.m. on Feb. 27.

The semifinal games will be at noon and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. The championship, which will be televised live on Comcast Sports Southeast and on the Big South Television Network, will be played Saturday, March 2 at noon. All games will be played at the Roanoke Civic Center in Roanoke, Va. The winner will receive the Big South’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Game 4: #3 Radford vs. #6 Winthrop, 9:00 p.m.

Friday, February 28
Game 5 (Semifinal 1): Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, Noon.
Game 6 (Semifinal 2): Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4, 2:00 p.m.

Saturday, March 2
Game 7 (Championship): Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6, Noon.
