Women's Basketball Come From Behind In Win Over High Point

    

CONWAY, S.C.- In women's basketball action, Coastal Carolina came back from a 16-point first-half deficit to pull off a key Big South Conference win, defeating visiting High Point, 72-65, Feb. 23. With the victory, CCU moves to 11-12 and 5-6 in league play, while the Panthers drop to 12-11 and 7-4 in the conference.

High Point, starting on a hot streak from the field, got on top early and never trailed in the first half, building as much as a 16-point lead at 28-12 with 8:48 left in the first half. However, the Lady Chanticleers chipped away at the lead, including runs of 11-3 and 10-4 over the closing minutes. Eventually, Coastal cut the margin to four at the intermission, 37-33, on Nikki Reddick's three-pointer with five seconds to go.

The Panthers came out and built their lead back up to 12 just over four minutes into the second half to lead 49-37 and led by 11 at 52-41 with 13:25 to play. That is when Coastal made its big move, going on a 17-2 run over the next 5:32, as Cyndie Troutman scored seven during the spurt, to take the lead at 58-54 with 6:53 to play. High Point tied the game at 60-all with 4:18 to play on Tonya Tripp's two made free throws, but the Lady Chants took the lead for good on Reddic's layup just 14 seconds later and hit three of four free throws in the closing seconds to take the win.

After struggling from the field in the first half, Coastal lit it up in the second half, hitting on 63.0 percent (17-27) of its shots from the field to finish the game at 46.4 percent. There were two other tell-tale statistics of the game. Coastal converted 16 High Point turnovers into 22 points and outscored the Panthers 36-22 in the paint. CCU also outrebounded High Point, 41-34.

Troutman led Coastal with a game-high 22 points and team-high seven rebounds, while Reddick added 18 and Alisha Dill chipped in 11. High Point was paced by Katie O'Dell with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Martin scored 17, while Tripp and Kate Jenner added 11 and 10, respectively.

Coastal is next in action, traveling to UNC Asheville for a 2 p.m. tipoff, Saturday, Feb. 28. High Point is back in action on Saturday when they Liberty at 4 p.m.
