CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - In conjunction with the 2014 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Conference Basketball Championships, Coastal Carolina University has coordinated with the Horry County School system to provide an “Education Day” event for three area schools as part of the women’s first round on Tuesday, March 4. Approximately 250 fourth- and fifth-grade students from Pee Dee Elementary, South Conway Elementary and Waccamaw Elementary will be on campus for educational activities -- including attendance of the first game of the day that is now scheduled for 11:00am to accommodate the learning program.

Students will arrive on campus beginning at 9:45am, followed by the special curriculum of geography, math and health/nutrition until 10:30am. The students will then arrive at The HTC Center shortly thereafter to experience Fan Fest, and the event will culminate with game one of the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Women’s Basketball Championship at 11:00am. Game two of the first round will now start at 1:00pm, with the final game of the day remaining at 6:00pm.

“We are excited to welcome area elementary students to the Coastal Carolina University campus during the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championship,” said Coastal Carolina Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek. “The day will include interactive learning activities and the Big South Conference’s version of March Madness. It is important for Coastal Carolina University and the Big South Conference to expose local youth to a college campus and intercollegiate athletic opportunities at an early age, and the Education Day activities will provide this opportunity.”

The 2014 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championships features 23 men’s and women’s Big South basketball teams and 21 games in six days at The HTC Center beginning Tuesday, March 4; the men’s and women’s championship games will be held on Sunday, March 9.
