Women's Basketball Falls Due To Hot Hands of Radford, 82-73

    


RADFORD, VA—
Radford shot a season high 57.7 percent (30-52), 50 from behind the arc, and received a career high 23 points and eight rebounds from junior Brandy Allen (Roanoke, Va.), defeating Coastal Carolina, 82-73 at the Dedmon Center. RU reached the 80-point plateau for the first time this season. With the win, the Highlanders win their third straight and improve to 9-13 overall and 7-4 in the Big South, while the Lady Chanticleers drop to 7-15, 3-7.

Also tallying double figures for the Highlanders were Amanda Neby (Plymouth, Minn.), Ludmila Nicheporchuk (Minsk, Belarus) and Kylie Williamson (Ankeny, Iowa) with 18,17 and 14 respectively. Coastal's Nikki Reddick led all scorers with 24, while Whitney Shearer added a career high 22.

Both teams shot well in the first half, with CCU taking a 39-36 lead into the locker room. The Lady Chants, who shot 53 percent, broke open a 6-6 tie with a 13-3 run to grab a 20-9 lead at 12:49. They would slowly extend their lead, getting up by as much as 14 on a couple of occasions. The Highlanders (52%) would fight back, going on a 13-4 run in the final 4:40 to cut the gap to three at the break.

Radford would continue their hot shooting (65.2%) in the second half and step up the defense as they held CCU to 32.4 percent. The Highlanders down 43-40 early on, would go on a 15-5 run to grab their first lead since 4-2 in the first half. The Lady Chants would battle back, taking a one-point lead with 7:49 left but Nicheporchuk, who was 5-8 from deep, would respond with a pair of threes to give RU the lead for good at 64-59.

The Highlanders went 10 for 20 from three-point land, setting a new team record for three's in a season with 233. It also tied the school record for three's in a game, marking the fifth time in school history.

Radford is back on the road when they travel to UNC-Asheville on Feb. 13 for a 7:00 p.m. tip. Up next for Coastal is Liberty on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
