CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina University point guard Shatia Cole was tabbed the Big South Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 24-30, the League announced on Tuesday.
The award is her fourth Big South Freshman of the Week plaudit this season. She joins Brooke Weisbrod (1997-98) as the only two student-athletes in Chanticleer women's basketball history to garner four Big South Freshmen of the Week honors.
Cole, a Myrtle Beach native, averaged 15.5 points per game and shot 45 percent from the field to push Coastal Carolina to a 2-0 record last week. Against Gardner-Webb on Feb. 4, Cole posted 16 points on 46 percent from the floor, three from long range and one from the line, to go along with six rebounds, four steals and two assists. She followed that effort with 15 points, four rebounds, three steals and an assist in the 74-58 win over UNC Asheville on Feb. 6.
Radford's Da'Naria Erwin Spencer was named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week.
Cole and the Chanticleers take on Erwin Spencer and the Highlanders on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Radford. Tipoff from the Dedmon Center is scheduled for 3 p.m.
