Opening Tip
Coastal Carolina (13-8, 4-5 Big South) snapped a three-game skid in a 67-60 thriller over High Point. With the win, the Chanticleers are 9-1 on the home court. Coastal looks to continue its home-court success, taking on UNC Asheville (6-17, 1-9 Big South) Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs previously beat the Chants 59-48 in Asheville. Head Coach Alan LeForce will coach barefoot for "Barefeet" as the Big South's involvement in Samaritans Feet, a charity to raise awareness to put shoes on children's feet all over the world.
Scouting UNC Asheville
Despite beating the Chanticleers on January 2, UNC Asheville has not won a conference game since then, and has a 1-9 mark in the Big South and a 6-17 record overall heading into tonight's game. The Bulldogs have only won two games away from the Justice Center, with the last coming on Dec. 30, beating Lafayette, 50-43, in the JMU Invitational. UNC Asheville was most recently edged by Charleston Southern, 90-87. Asheville is led by junior Lindsey Montgomery, who averages 12.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
Coaching Match Up
Coastal Carolina Head Coach Alan LeForce is in his 13th season with the Chanticleers, and 27th as a collegiate coach. UNC Asheville is led by Betsy Blose, who is in her seventh season with the Bulldogs and 14th in the collegiate arena. Blose has accumulated a 98-109 record with UNC Asheville, as Leforce has a 188-171 record with the Chanticleers. Blose has a 9-7 advantage in the 15 times the coaches met.

Series Record: Coastal leads 27-22
Coastal fell to UNC Asheville 59-48 in Asheville, N.C. on Jan. 2. Last season, the Chanticleers took both games in the series, winning 68-55 at home Jan. 3 and 75-70 Feb. 9 in Asheville. Amanda Stull had a stand-out game in Asheville last season, scoring a career-high 25 points Feb. 9.
Women's Basketball Wins Battle Over High Point
The Chanticleers pulled out a 67-60 thrilling win over High Point, who has the third-best record in the Big South. After falling to Panthers earlier in the season, the Chanticleers used their hot three-point shooting and rebounding to get the win. With a back-and-forth game of many runs, the Chants defense held the Panthers in the final minutes of the game, and hit 4-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final minutes. The Chants had four players in double-figures, with Katie White scoring a career-high 17 points. Sydnei Moss claimed her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Devin Rivers also posted a double-double, her first of the season, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Irick caught fire from beyond the arc, going 4-for-4 and finishing with 12 points.
As Cold As Ice
The Chanticleers have shown that they have "ice running through their veins" when it comes to close games. In the six games this season that the score has been less than 10 points, the Chants have gone 81 percent (45-53) from the charity stripe in the final five minutes of the game. Sydnei Moss leads the Chants in pressure free-throw shooting by going 21-for-23 (91 percent) in the tight situations. Most recently, Moss went 4-for-4 in the pressure situation against High Point on Feb. 6.
It's All Academic
Coastal Carolina University women's basketball senior Amanda Stull and junior Katie White have been selected to the CoSIDA/ ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team for District III, announced on Thursday, February 4. This is Stull's second time selected for the District III First Team. Stull has a 3.94 grade-point average, majoring in biology with a concentration in pre-pharmacy. This is White's first selection to the Academic All-District Team. She has a 4.0 GPA, majoring in accounting.
Women's Basketball Gets Dropped by Presbyterian
Coastal lost at Presbyterian 56-46 in Clinton, S.C. on Monday, Feb. 1. The Chanticleers are now 2-7 on the road this season. Sydnei Moss posted her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Grochowski scored a career-high 13 points in the loss.
Night and Day
. Coastal Carolina has thrived on its home court this season, winning eight of the nine contests' played at Kimbel Arena. The Chanticleers are shooting .432 percent from the field and .676 from the line in the wins at home. The Chants have been averaging 65.3 points a game and holding opponents to 50.6 points. Coastal Carolina has outscored opponents by an average of 14.7 points. On the road, however, the Chanticleers have a 2-7 record. Coastal has been outscored by an average of 21.8 points and are held to .313 percent from the field. The last time the Chanticleers have won on the road was on Dec. 5 against Savannah State, 49-35.
Chanticleers Fall to Gardner-Webb 78-33
Women's Basketball fell to Gardner-Webb 78-33 on Saturday, January 30 at Boiling Springs, N.C. The Chanticleers held strong in the first half by forcing four lead changes and five ties, but the Bulldogs began to pull away, going into the locker room up 25-20. The Bulldogs continued what they started in the first half by going a 19-0 run and outscoring the Chants 53-13 in the second half. Junior Sydnei Moss led the team with 11 points and four rebounds as fellow classmate Katie Ahaus finished with seven points, all in the first half.
Coastal's Home Winning Streak Snapped by Liberty
Coastal Carolina got its first loss at home from Big South-foe Liberty, 57-38 on Monday, Jan. 25. The Chanticleers contained the Flames to end the first half up 21-16, and held the visitors to 25 percent shooting (6-for-24) from the field. The Chants came out of the locker room building their lead to 10 at 28-18 with 17:06 left in the game. Liberty drove to the hoop and utilized its size to go on an 18-0 run in six minutes. Junior Sydnei Moss had a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds. Senior Amanda Stull hit two three-pointers to tally six points. No other Chanticleer scored more than two points against the Flames.
Great Free Throw Shooting Helps Chants Defeat Radford
Coastal Carolina defeated Radford 62-49 on Saturday, January 23rd to win its eighth contest at home and third straight in the Big South. The teams were neck-and-neck in the first as Coastal was only up by six, 26-20, going into the half. Radford came out of the locker room scoring seven straight, but superb 84- percent free throw shooting helped the Chants pull away from Radford. Sydnei Moss led the game by posting a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Moss also went 11-for-12 from the line. Devin Rivers also had a good showing by shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from the line, finishing with 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. Amanda Stull followed with nine points, going 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.
They Don't Call Them "Free" Throws for Nothing
The Chanticleers show they can be a dangerous team from the free throw line during their three game stint at home against Winthrop Radford and Liberty. The Chanticleers have shot over 89 percent (39-for-44) in the three games. Sydnei Moss has gone 92 percent (22-for-24) from the line in three games. For the season, the Chanticleers are 69 percent from the line and 72 percent in conference play.
First Half Frenzy
In all but three of Coastal's wins this season, the Chants have led in the first half. In the first half, the Chanticleers have outscored their opponents by an average of 32.9-to-20.8 in the 10 games won going into the halftime with the lead.
22 Seconds is all It Takes for Grochowski
Redshirt-junior Lauren Grochowski only played 22 seconds against Winthrop, but that is all it took for her to change the outcome of the game. With 18 seconds left in the game against Winthrop, Coastal found itself down by one point 55-54. Sydnei Moss got a rebound off of a missed free-throw and pushed it up the court to find Grochowski in the corner. Without taking a shot in over two hours, Grochowski swished a three-pointer that put the Chants up 57-55, and led them to their second Big South win, 59-57.
Double Time for Reynolds
Against Charleston Southern and Winthrop, senior Kendra Reynolds has posted two double-doubles. Against Charleston Southern and Winthrop, Reynolds tallied 10 points and 12 rebounds. Against Winthrop, Reynolds hit two free-throws with four seconds remaining in the game to seal the win for the Chanticleers. Reynolds and teammate Sydnei Moss leads the team by registering three double-doubles this season.
Put it In the Books
Senior Amanda Stull has made her mark in the Coastal Carolina history books by cracking the all-time top-10 record for career steals this season. Since the start of the season, Stull has jumped seven places on the list. Stull recently surpassed Patricia Clark (1976-79), who has 196 career-steals, to take the number four spot after picking up five in the loss to UNC Asheville on Jan. 2. Stull has a total of 214 career steals and is 32 steals away from cracking the third spot of Holly Bottar (1988-91), which Stull will need to average 3.9 steals per game to do so.

Chanticleers Get First Conference Win Over Charleston Southern
Coastal Carolina battled against Charleston Southern to get their first win in the Big South, 74-68 on Saturday, January 9 in Kimbel Arena. Despite the Chants having the lead the entire game, the Buccaneers kept things close by closing within one point with a minute and a half left in the game. Junior Sydnei Moss made a key jumper and free-throw to secure the win. Moss led Coastal by posting a double-double with a career-high 29 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Kendra Reynolds also tallied her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Chanticleers Fall to High Point
Coastal Carolina couldn't recover from a 15-0 High Point run in the first half, being defeated 79-39 and falling to 0-2 in Big South Conference play. The Chants struggled from the field, shooting 25.5 percent (13-of-51) while High Point shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) in the game. High Point took advantage of 27 Coastal turnovers, scoring 31 points in off of the miscues and 18 points off fast breaks. Only sophomore Olivia Irick tallied double figures for the Chants with 10 points and four rebounds. Courtney Grambley made her first start of the season and tallyied0 six points, two rebounds, one block and one steal.
Coastal Drops Conference Opener to UNC Asheville
Coastal Carolina fell to UNC Asheville in the conference opener on Saturday, January 2, 59-48. The Bulldogs shot 80 percent from the free-throw line in the second half and 47 percent from the field in the game. The Chants only shot 40 percent from the stripe and 33.9 percent from the floor in the game. Sydnei Moss scored a game-high 20 points in the loss. Bulldogs' Lindsey Montgomery posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Chanticleers Close 2009 with Win Over Elon
Coastal Carolina closed the regular season and the 2009 portion of the schedule with a win over Elon 61-49. For the first time this season, the Chanticleers were down in the first half by 12 points, 27-19, but battled their way back by holding the Phoenix scoreless for eight in a half minutes, going on a 11-0 run. Elizabeth Weaver sparked the Chants in the second half with two consecutive triples. Weaver finished the game scoring nine points, four rebounds and two assists in 13 second-half minutes. Sydnei Moss scored a game-high 18 points, while Amanda Stull followed with 11. Katie White had a career-night, posting career-highs with nine rebounds, six assists, five steals, and tying a career-high seven blocks. White finished the game with nine points.
White Out
Katie White sparked the Chanticleers since her return to action against Coker on Nov. 29 to Dec. 29 against Elon. White is averaging 6.3 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. Doing what she does best, the 6-3 junior has averaged 3.3 blocks per game and boosting the team average to 3.8, which is a block per game more than the Chants were averaging before her return. Most recently, White had a career-night against Elon posting career-highs with nine rebounds, six assists, five steals, and tying a career-high seven blocks. White finished the game with nine points.
Coastal Gets Back on Track Against Savannah State
Despite being without starters Sydnei Moss and Devin Rivers, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers defeated Savannah State 57-41 on December 20 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The game also closed out the two-game series against the Tigers, with Coastal coming out on top in both. Junior Katie White stepped up for the Chants against the Tigers tying a career-high with 13 points. She also collected four boards and put away three blocks. Senior Kendra Reynolds scored a season-high 11 points and grabbed for nine boards. Earning her first start of the season, Olivia Irick posted 10 points and four rebounds.
UNC Wilmington Snaps a Five-Game Win Streak
The Chanticleers five-game win streak was snapped by UNC Wilmington on Tuesday, December 15, 70-40. The Chants were held to shooting 32 percent from the field and a season-low 53.8 percent from the stripe. Sydnei Moss had a team-high 12 points and four rebounds. This is not the first time Wilmington has been a spoiler for the Chants last season they handed Coastal their first home loss, and in 2007-08 UNCW broke the longest a seven-game win streak to start the season.
Stull's Ranking in the NCAA
Coastal Carolina University women's basketball senior guard Amanda Stull was ranked second in NCAA Division I for three-point field-goal percentage through games of Dec. 21. Stull has hit 59.5 percent (22-37) from beyond the arc and is averaging 2.0 triples a game. Stull spent two weeks in the number one spot with a 66.7 three-point average for the weeks of Dec. 6 and Dec. 13.
Coastal Gets Past Converse
Despite a sluggish first half, the Chanticleers boosted their play in the second half to defeat Converse, 65-47 on Sunday, December 13 in Kimbel Arena. Seniors Amanda Stull and Devin Rivers scored all but four of the Chanticleers' 27 first-half points. Stull had a team-high 17 points. She also corralled six boards, snatched six steals, and handed out three assists. Rivers posted a career-high 15 points. Coming off the bench, Katie White grabbed nine rebounds and put away a season-high five blocks.
Chants Pull Through At Savannah State
Despite a rough night of 35.4 percent shooting, the Chanticleers relied on their defense and spectacular 91.7 percent free-throw shooting to win at Savannah State on Saturday, December 5, 49-35. Sydnei Moss tallied her first double-double of the season with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Moss also went a perfect 5-5 from the line, while Kendra Reynolds and Olivia Irick posted 100 percent from the stripe going 2-2. Katie Ahaus had a strong showing for the Chanticleers with 12 points and three rebounds. Coastal showed their toughness on the boards as they out rebounded the Tigers 36-29.
Chants Get Big Win Over College of Charleston
On Dec. 2 , the Chanticleers outlasted in-state rival College of Charleston, 57-53. In the first half, the lead changed six times and the scored was tied three times. Coastal held on in the second half, but the Cougars never allowed the lead to grow to more than five points. Sydnei Moss hit a crucial jumper with 10 seconds left in the game that put the game away from the Cougars.
Coastal Defeats Coker for the 35th Time in History
The Chanticleers defeated Coker 81-46 on Sunday, Nov. 29 for the 35th time in the history of both programs. The Chanticleers have never lost to the Cobras. Sophomore guard Olivia Irick had the game-high in scoring with 16 points and taking away three steals. Also tallying double figures was Sydnei Moss with 14 points and Amanda Stull adding 13. Moss led the team in rebounding with seven as Devin Rivers corralled six boards.
Chants Take Third Place in Great Alaska Shootout
Coastal Carolina came in third place in the Great Alaska Shootout at Anchorage, Alaska on Nov. 24 and 25. The Chants fell in their first game to host Alaska Anchorage 89-47. The Seawolves shot 54.1 percent from the field, as Coastal was held to a 28.8 shooting percentage. Juniors Sydnei Moss and Jessica Noll led the Chanticleers with 10 points apiece, and Noll grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
In a much improved second game, the Chanticleers beat Western Carolina, 72-64. Moss had a team-high 17 points, while Katie Ahaus sparked the team by adding 14 points and three assists.
Ahaus Sparks the Chants over Western Carolina
Transfer junior Katie Ahaus was a main factor in the Chanticleers 72-64 win over the Western Carolina Catamounts. Ahaus scored 10 points in the first half . Ahaus continued her tough play by hitting a jumper that gave the Chanticleers the biggest lead of the game, 59-46, with eight minutes remaining in the second half. Ahaus was awarded the Carrs/Safeway Player of the Game.
Moss Named to All-Tournament Team
Junior Sydnei Moss was named to the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team after leading the Chanticleers in points both nights of play. Moss scored 10 points in the loss to Alaska Anchorage and scored 17 points in the win over Western Carolina. Moss also grabbed for 10 rebounds throughout the tournament.
No. 4 North Carolina Hands Chanticleers their First Loss
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers had a strong first half against the No. 4/4 ranked North Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The Chanticleers grabbed the lead in the first half at with six minutes left, 20-19. The Tar Heels got the lead back shortly after and kept it going into the half, 33-25. North Carolina came out in the second half scoring 17 unanswered points, which the Chanticleers could not answer. Redshirt-senior Elizabeth Weaver finished the game strong for the Chanticleers scoring a career-high 14 points. Sydnei Moss added 13 rebounds, and Devin Rivers finished with a season-high eight points and four rebounds.
Stull and Moss Duo Help the Chants Win Over Campbell
Amanda Stull and Sydnei Moss combined for 45 points against Campbell on Nov. 16, 66-59. The two scored 68 percent of the points in the game for the Chanticleers. Stull had the game-high 23 points, while Moss followed with 22, tying her career high. Stull went 5-for-6 in the first half from behind the three-point arc, and Moss was perfect on eight crucial foul shots in the last three minutes of the game.
Stull Named Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Coastal Carolina University women's basketball senior Amanda Stull garnered the Choice Hotels Big South Women's Basketball of the Week for the week of Nov. 17. Stull averaged 21.0 points in two games played, shooting .577 percent from the field and .714 from beyond the arc. She also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 6.0 steals per game.
In the 89-20 win over Southern Virginia on Friday, Nov. 13, Stull had 19 points, shooting 5-for-6 from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the field. Stull dished out four assists, two blocks and grabbed a career-high eight steals. Stull continued her strong play in the 66-59 win at Campbell on Monday, Nov. 16 by shooting 5-for-6 from beyond the arc in the first half and totaling a game-high 23 points. Stull also grabbed eight rebounds and four steals.
Ahaus in the House
Transfer-junior Katie Ahaus had a strong first appearance in a Chanticleer uniform by dishing eight assists, six points, four steals and two rebounds in the home opener against Southern Virginia.
Bench Shows Strength
The Chanticleer bench scored 44 points in the win against Southern Virginia. Redshirt-sophomore Courtney Grambley led the Chanticleers with five rebounds, which included three offensive grabs. Sophomore Olivia Irick led the bench with 17 points and five steals.
Oh Captain, My Captain
After having no seniors on the 2008-09 roster, the 2009-10 roster is opposite and has four seniors leading this year's squad. Amanda Stull, Devin Rivers and Elizabeth Weaver have been Chanticleers all four years, while Kendra Reynolds has been here for two but will be looked at to be a vocal leader on the team.
All Aboard!!!
For the fourth consecutive season, Coastal Carolina will have the same assistant coaches on the bench that combine 20 years between them. Frank Moorhead is in his eighth season with the Chants, Mark Kost starts his seventh season and Shameka Montgomery begins her fifth season as assistant coaches for the Chanticleers. This staff has put together a squad that has gone 52-33 (.612) in the past three seasons.
Chants Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll
The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team was selected to finish fourth in the Big South Preseason poll announced by the league Oct. 13 at Charlotte, N.C. The poll is voted by the league's coaches and media members. The Chanticleers received a total of 101 points, putting them ahead of Charleston Southern. For the first time in Big South history, Liberty and High Point were picked to finish in the top spot in the conference, each receiving 160 points. Gardner-Webb was picked to finish ahead of the Chanticleers in third by receiving four first-place votes. Rounding out the poll are Winthrop, Radford, UNC Asheville and Presbyterian. Garnering Preseason Player of the Year honors is High Point junior Jurica Hargraves. Also, selected to the preseason team was Mackenzie Maier of High Point, Margaret Roundtree and Dominique Hudson of Gardner-Webb, and Kymesha Alston of Radford.
All Coastal Carolina Games To Be Broadcast On the Internet
For the third straight year, the Coastal Carolina University women's basketball team will broadcast every regular-season and postseason game. Beginning with the season opener Nov. 13 against Southern Virginia, all 28 regular season games and postseason contests will be available at www.GoCCUsports.com. The broadcasts will start 10 minutes prior to tip off. Describing the action, will be Chris Burgin, who enters his third year as "The Voice of Chanticleers Women's Basketball." Burgin came to Coastal Carolina after spending the previous eight years as play-by-play voice for Big South Conference rival Presbyterian College. During his tenure with the Blue Hose, Burgin handled the broadcasts for football, men's and women's basketball, along with baseball and softball. He was behind the microphone when the PC football team won the South Atlantic Conference championship and recorded the school's first NCAA football playoff appearance in 2005. Burgin was also witness to a Division II "Sweet 16" trip by the men's basketball team in 2003 and numerous appearances in the postseason by the women's basketball squad. Burgin, a 1992 graduate of the University of South Carolina, is currently employed by SportsRadio 1410 WPCC in Clinton. In addition, every postseason game, beginning with the 2009 Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament March 12-14 in High Point, N.C., will be broadcast on both www.GoCCUSports.com and THE TEAM 93.9 FM in Myrtle Beach.
