Women's Basketball, Lead by Reddick's 27 points, Come From behind to Beat Winthrop

CONWAY, S.C. - Nikki Reddick scored a game-high 27 points, including 25 in the second half and overtime, while junior Cyndie Trouman added a career-high 16 points, as the Coastal Carolina women's basketball team defeated Winthrop, 78-71, in overtime in Big South action, Friday evening in Kimbel Arena.

The victory for Coastal (6-7, 2-3 Big South) ended a three-game losing streak, with the last win coming at Radford on Jan. 2.

Winthrop jumped out on top early, grabbing an 11-point lead (25-14) with 6:11 remaining in the first half. The Lady Eagles would then go on a
10-3 run over the next 3:18 to give Winthrop its biggest lead at 35-16.

The Lady Chants came out clawing in the second half, as Coastal went on a 9-0 run capped off by a jumper by Crystal Brown to narrow the gap to three, at 36-33 with 17:14 remaining. The Lady Eagles would again try to pull away, pushing its lead up to double-digits on three different occasions, with the final coming at 53-43, at the 8:56 mark.

Reddick would then highlight a 13-2 Lady Chant run as Coastal re-took the lead at 56-55. Winthrop would take a five-point lead with 1:00 left in regulation, when Lady Eagle forward Laura Herman converted on a three-point play to make the score 66-61. However, Coastal could not be denied, as Lucia Popovici would hit a 12-foot jumper to narrow the Winthrop lead to 66-63 with 37 seconds left. Virag Kovacs had a chance to make it a two possession game for Winthrop with 15 seconds remaining, but missed the front end of a one and one. Reddick would then send the game into overtime with a three-pointer from the corner with 1.8 seconds left.

In the overtime it was all Coastal, as the Lady Chants would outscore Winthrop 12-5 in the extra period.

Winthrop (4-10, 1-3 Big South) was led by Herman's 21 points, along with Stephanie Pannell, who added 16.

The Lady Chants will next travel to UNC Asheville, to face the Bulldogs, Wednesday, January 22 at 7 p.m.,while Winthrop travels to Charleston Southern to take on the Lady Bucs on Monday at 7 p.m.
