DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team fell to North Texas, 50-34, Thursday afternoon in the first of two games to be played in the 2017 San Juan Shootout, held at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.
The Chanticleers (3-2) had no answer to Terriell Bradley of North Texas (3-1), who finished the game with 20 points on 7-of-13 from the floor and four points at the line. Coastal also turned the ball over a season high 29 times, leading to 36 points for the Mean Green.
Coastal was led by the 12 points of Jas Adams, who continued her streak of scoring in double figures in every game this season. Adams also hauled in eight rebounds to finish second among all players in the category.
North Texas scored the game's first points after nearly five scoreless minutes of basketball. From there, the Mean Green remained ahead for almost the entirety of the contest, with the lone exception of Coastal tying the score at 13-13 three minutes into the second quarter.
North Texas broke the second quarter tie to go back in front, and used a 14-2 run over the final seven minutes of the first half to carry a 27-15 lead into halftime.
The double-digit margin remained throughout most of the second half as the Chants converted on just six of their 17 attempts from the field over the game's final 20 minutes. Coastal managed to trim the deficit to single digits with 5:21 to go, but went scoreless for the remainder of the game as North Texas scored seven unanswered points down the final stretch.
