CONWAY, S.C.-The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team opened the 2009-10 season with an 89-20 home win over Southern Virginia on Friday, Nov. 13 at Kimbel Arena.
The Chanticleers started the first half with a 19-0 run over the Lady Knights with 11 points coming from senior Amanda Stull, including three consecutive three-pointers. Stull scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the first half, shooting 5-6 from beyond the arc for the night. Stull also grabbed a career-high nine steals.
Three consecutive Sydnei Moss jumpers at 10:28 began a 27-0 run that ended the first half with the Chanticleers up 38-6. Moss finished the game with 16 points and scoring 13 in the first half.
Stull began the second half with a three pointer that started the Chanticleers on a 15-point run. Southern Virginia's Amanda Prestwich scored a jumper and free throw to put the score at 64-10. Kezia Ford also helped the Lady Knights by scoring two three pointers in a row.
Coastal finished the night shooting 50.6 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from beyond the arc. The Chants also scored 65 points off Southern Virginia turnovers, but were outrebounded by the Lady Knights 35-31.
The Chanticleer bench had a strong showing, scoring 44 points. Sophomore Olivia Irick ended the game with a career-high 17 points, while redshirt-Junior Lauren Grochowski posted a career-high 11 points . Junior Jessica Noll chipped in 12 points, with redshirt-sophomore Courtney Grambley grabbing a game-high five rebounds. In her first game as a Chanticleer, junior transfer Katie Ahaus finished the game with eight assists and six points.
The Chanticleers start their four-game road trip on Monday, Nov. 16 at Campbell at 7 p.m.
