CONWAY - Seven Chanticleers scored in double-figures to lead Coastal Carolina to a 94-53 exhibition victory over Claflin in women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at The HTC Center.

The Chanticleers shot an impressive 55.6 percent from the floor, including 40.0 percent from three, and knocked down 75.7 percent of their free throws in the victory. Defensively, the Chants held Claflin to only 28.3 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent from deep. Coastal also controlled the glass to the tune of a 50-21 advantage, including a 37-15 edge in defensive boards.

Senior Angelica Henry and redshirt freshman Megan Pittman co-led Coastal in the scoring column with 16 points each. AJ Jordan, who was perfect from the floor and charity stripe, added 13, while Katelyn Connor and Kayla Cook scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Freshman Karsen Sims and senior Alexx Puckett rounded out the Chants in double-digits with 10 points apiece. Freshman Olivia Carlton scored six points in her 17 minutes of action.

"It was great to finally get on the floor and play an opponent in a game setting," said first-year head coach Jaida Williams. "We shot the ball pretty well today and were able to dictate the pace of play through portions of the game. We now know what we need to continue to work on to improve and be ready for opening day."

Claflin was paced by Jaquanna Davis' 16 points on 6-of-7 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. Davis was joined in double-digits by Brittani Goodwin, who scored 14 on 6-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Henry sparked Coastal's first large run of the game with a basket at the 16:57 mark of the first half to break a 6-6 tie. Coastal went on to outscore the visiting Panthers 21-9 over the ensuing 8:38 to take a 27-15 lead and never looked back on the scoreboard. The Chants finished the half with a 16-11 run to take a 43-26 lead into the intermission.

After the break, Coastal opened the game up for good with a 25-9 scoring stretch over the first eight minutes of the half, taking a 38-35 lead. During the run six Chants scored with Connor leading the way with six points. The final 10 minutes of play was more of an even affair as both teams went to their bench; however, Coastal managed to add to its lead while ending the game on a 26-18 run.

The Chants were led on the boards by Puckett's and Cook's eight caroms each.

Coastal outscored the Panthers by a 40-20 margin in the paint, 21-13 off turnovers and 16-6 in fastbreak opportunities.
