CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University women's basketball team couldn't keep visiting Liberty off the boards, losing to the Flames, 57-38, Monday, Jan. 25. The Chanticleers had their eight-game home win streak snapped and fell to 12-6 and 3-3 in Big South Conference action, while the Flames moved to 14-4 and 5-1 in the league, improving its win streak to seven, with five games coming in conference.

Liberty started the game with an 8-2 run, but the Chanticleers answered with a 7-1 run to tie the game up 9-9 with 11:42 remaining in the first stanza. The teams battled back and forth for the next ten minutes, including three lead changes. The Chanticleers began to pull away with four free Sydnei Moss free throws and an Amanda Stull three-pointer with three seconds left in the half, putting them up 21-16 going into the intermission. The Flames outrebounded the Chanticleers 18-16, but Coastal tallied five second chance points to Liberty’s three. Coastal shot 31.6 percent (6-for-19) from the field, while holding Liberty to 25 percent (6-for-24).

In the second half, the Chanticleers left off what they started in the first half by scoring six straight points out of the locker room, gaining their biggest lead of 10 at 28-18 at
17:06. The tables turned on the Coastal as Liberty attacked the basket and utilized their size, going on a 15-3 run over the next six minutes to regain the lead 33-31. Sydnei Moss tried to spark the Chanticleers with a jumper and a shot from beyond the arc, but the Flames responded by going on an 18-0 run in the next seven minutes to put the game out of reach. Liberty went 10-for-12 from the charity stripe to close out the game.

It was the tale of two halves for both teams as
Liberty picked up 27 boards in the second half to Coastal’s five. The Flames also shut down the Chanticleers from getting any second chance points and scored 15 themselves, while also scoring 16 points coming in the paint. Liberty also doubled its shooting percentage in the second stanza, hitting 50 percent (14-for-28) from the field.

Liberty had two players post double-doubles with Devon Brown scoring a team-high 17 points and grabbing 10 boards. Redshirt-sophomore Avery Warley tallied the second double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Flames finished the game hitting 38.5 percent (20-for-52) from the field, and 60.9 percent (14-for-23) from the line. Liberty also dominated the glass 45-21.

Coastal’s Moss had a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds, with Amanda Stull following with six points. No other Chanticleer registered more than two points in the game. Coastal finished the game hitting 31.7 percent (13-for-41) from the floor and 100 percent (6-for-6) from the line.

The Chants will begin a two-game road trip to Gardner-Webb on Saturday, Jan. 30 at
4:30 p.m. The Flames will continue their four-game road swing on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Big South co-leader High Point.
