BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team was plagued by 24 turnovers and missed opportunities down the stretch as the Chanticleers fell to Campbell, 58-55, on Monday evening in Buies Creek, N.C.

The narrow defeat sends Coastal to 10-7 (3-5 Big South) on the season and snaps the Chants six-game winning streak over Campbell. The win improves Campbell to 11-7 (4-3 Big South) and a perfect 8-0 at home this season.

Olivia Irick and Shatia Cole each scored 14 points to lead Coastal and Alexx Puckett pulled down a season-high eight rebounds. Tonisha Baker paced Campbell in the scoring column with 17 points in addition to her 10 rebounds.

Campbell's Toni Baker scored the Fighting Camel's first eight points, with six coming off Coastal turnovers, in the second half to cut the Chants 10-point halftime lead to five. A pair of Alexx Puckett free throws slowed the Campbell momentum and pushed Coastal's lead back to seven. A Jazmine Cooper layup, Kate Claxton 3-pointer and Katelyn Bass layup erased the Chanticleer lead and pulled Campbell even for the first time in the game at 39-all with 12:08 left on the clock.

Senior Taylor Epley put the Chants back up by two with a 15-foot jumper, but Jessica Moore scored a layup and connected on a three from the wing to give Campbell its first lead of the game at 44-41 with 9:25 to play.

The teams exchanged points over the next four minutes until Cole drained a trey from the top of the key to pull Coastal even at 48-all. Cloxton matched Cole with a three of her own on the Fighting Camels ensuing possession to restore Campbell's lead.

Coastal's AJ Jordan narrowed the Campbell lead to one at 54-53 with a minute to play as she cut toward the basket and drained a five-foot jumper in traffic. On the ensuing possession, Campbell's Bass made a layup as she was fouled but missed the free throw, leaving the door open for the Chants. However, Coastal was unable to take advantage before sending Bass to the charity stripe where she sank both attempts. After a timeout, Cole cut under the defense and made a layup with six seconds to play bringing the Chants within three at 58-55. Campbell missed two foul shots with three seconds remaining to give Coastal one final opportunity to send the game to overtime. Unfortunately, Kayla Cook's desperation three from midcourt was offline giving Campbell its second straight win.

The Chanticleers opened the contest a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor as they built an early 12-7 lead. Campbell cut Coastal's lead to three over the next five minutes; however, the Chants countered with an 8-0 run to take an 11-point advantage with 7:55 remaining in the half. The run saw Jordan and Irick sink 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions and Cole make a well-contested layup in the paint.

A Roslyn Presley old-fashioned three-point play then sparked a 9-2 Fighting Camel scoring streak to cut Coastal's lead to four at 26-22 with just under five minutes to play. The hot shooting Chants retaliated to outscore Campbell 8-2 over the remainder of the half to restore a 10-point advantage at 34-24 heading into the intermission.

Coastal shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the field, but Campbell countered with a 42.6 shooting percentage (23-of-54) and a 36-20 edge in points in the paint.

Coastal Carolina returns to the court on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Charleston Southern as it completes its first trip through the Big South schedule. Tipoff from the Buccaneers' CSU Field House is set for 2 p.m.
