Men’s Cross Country Concludes Season at NCAA Regionals: The Coastal Carolina men’s cross country team concluded its season at the NCAA Southeast Regional, Nov. 10, at Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. Senior Blair Paul posted a personal-best in both time and place in the 10K race. Paul finished in 99th place out of 200 runners in 32:35.85. Senior Jake Morris, the only other Chanticleer to compete, did not finish the race due to illness.


COASTAL FINISHES SIXTH AT NEW BALANCE BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS: CCU finished in sixth place at the New Balance Big South Conference Championships Saturday morning at Jackson Park, Oct. 27. Despite running without three of their top-seven runners, the Chants totaled 118 points. Senior Blair Paul was named to the All-Conference Team as well as to the league’s All-Academic Team for the second year in a row. For the third consecutive year, Liberty claimed the championship with 27 total points. Liberty had the meet’s top-three runners for the second consecutive year, as Josh McDougal became the first runner in league history to finish first overall all four seasons.


PAUL COLLECTS LEAGUE AWARDS: Senior Blair Paul was named to the Big South All-Conference Team as well as to the league’s All-Academic Team for the second year in a row. Paul carries a 3.935 grade point average as a marine science major and finished 10th overall at the league championship meet.


“B” TEAM COMPETES AT LOW COUNTRY INVITATIONAL: Members of the CCU “B” Team competed at the Low Country Invitational at the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center at John’s Island County, Oct. 13. Sophomore Ryan Caputo placed ninth out of 35 runners in 16:36 during the 5K race. Freshman Mike Kimmel finished in 13th in 16:53, while freshman Travis Owens placed 15th in 17:03 and redshirt freshman David Mead was 18th in 17:11.


COASTAL COMPETES AT PRE-NATIONALS: The Chanticleers finished 37th out of 40 teams in the Men’s White Race at NCAA Pre-Nationals hosted by Indiana State University, Oct. 13. The Chanticleers totaled 1,073 points. CCU’s top three finishers each clocked in with season-best times and sophomore Max Hacker recorded a personal best with a 25:15.7 mark. Sophomore Jamie McCarthy led the Chants, placing 169th out of 273 runners with a time of 25:10.7. Hacker finished 178th, while senior Blair Paul placed 202nd in 25:30.3. Senior Jake Morris clocked in at 26:40.4 in 255th place and freshman Kevin Davis finished 269th in 27:44.8. Sophomore John Heron did not finish the race due to an injured ankle.


CCU FINISHES 29TH AT BROOKS PAUL SHORT RUN: The Chanticleers finished 29th out of 41 teams at the 34th annual Brooks Paul Short Run in the Men’s College Brown Championship 8K Race. CCU totaled 762 points, finishing ahead of fellow Big South Conference teams Radford and VMI. Sophomore John Heron was the Chants’ top finisher in 97th place with a 25:50 time.


CHANTS WIN CCU INVITATIONAL: For the third consecutive season, the Chants claimed the CCU Invitational title. The Chants had four runners place in the top five with sophomore Jamie McCarthy (26:13.02), senior Blair Paul (26:29.57), sophomore Max Hacker (26:34.83) and senior Jake Morris (27:10.15) placing second through fifth, respectively.


CCU FINISHES SIXTH AT COVERED BRIDGE OPEN: The CCU men’s cross country team opened the 2007 season with a sixth-place finish at the Covered Bridge Open, Friday, Aug. 31. The Chants totaled 139 points. Sophomore Jamie McCarthy paced Coastal with a time of 26:05.42 and an 18th place finish. Senior Blair Paul placed 25th with a 26:28.93 mark, while sophomore Max Hacker’s time of 26:32.03 was 29th.


COASTAL SELECTED SECOND IN PRESEASON POLL: CCU was picked to finish second in the Big South Conference. Liberty was picked to repeat as conference champions, receiving all 16 first-place votes. The preseason poll is voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.
