CONWAY- Kyle Kling of the Coastal Carolina men’s cross country team will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional meet held at EP Tom Sawyer Park on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Louisville, Ky. The men’s 10k race will start at 11:15 a.m.
This year marks the fourth time in a five year span that the Southeast Regional has been held at the home course of the University of Louisville. The top two teams in the meet will automatically advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. where they will join the top teams from the other nine regional meets as well as the 13 at-large teams selected to compete by the NCAA. Individuals qualify for the national meet by being one of the top four individuals on a non-qualifying team and must finish in the top 25 overall in their respective regional meet.
This year’s stacked Southeast Regional field included six of the top 23 nationally ranked teams in N.C. State (16), North Carolina (18), William & Mary (19), Louisville (20), Virginia (21), and Duke (23).
Kling enters the meet fresh off his seventh place finish at the Big South Championship meet. Kling finished the 8k course in 25:13.98 to earn All-Big South Conference honors. He was also named to the Big South All-Academic team for his work in the classroom.
Kling has placed in the top ten in each meet this season including winning the 5k Mount Olive Invitational with a personal best time of 15:10. For his efforts in the meet, Kling garnered Big South Runner of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 27.
“Kyle has been training well over the past two week and ready to compete,” said head coach Jeff Jacobs. “He is excited to compete against the quality competition that he will see at the regional meet.”
Kling finished 57th in last season’s regional meet finishing in 32:08.51.
