Nov. 11, 2011
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's cross team will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Louisville, Ky. The Chanticleers will toe the line at 10 a.m. along with 36 other teams for the 10-kilometer race.
This year marks the fifth time in a six year span that the Southeast Regional has been held at the home course of the University of Louisville. The top two teams in the meet will automatically advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind. where they will join the top teams from the other nine regional meets as well as the 13 at-large teams selected to compete by the NCAA. Individuals qualify for the national meet by being one of the top four individuals on a non-qualifying team and must finish in the top 25 overall in their respective regional meet.
Representing the Chanticleers will be senior Rob Delviscio, junior Spencer Lange, sophomore Cameron Wells along with freshmen Evan Niciphor, Joseph Keitt, Tyler Cummings and Zach Hensel. Each student-athlete will be making their NCAA Regional debut in the meet.
Coastal enters the meet coming off a seventh place finish at the Big South Championship meet. Each of the Chanticleers' top six finishers turned in a personal-record on the 8-kilometer course. Leading the way for the teal and black clad Chants was Niciphor, the conference's second freshman finisher, with a time of 25:26.
Niciphor has paced Coastal in four of the squad's five events this season with a pair of top 20 finishes. Fellow freshman Joseph Keitt was the Chants other top finisher as he won the season-opening Gamecock Open.
