CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina Men's Cross Country team will head to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the 2006 NCAA Men's Regionals meet on Saturday, Nov. 11. The event will begin at 11 a.m. ET with the women's 6-kilometer race followed by the men's 10-kilometer race at 12:15 p.m., and will conclude with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. The top two teams in each race will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 20 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The 10th regionally ranked Chanticleers will be lead by freshman Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Cork Co., Ireland/North Monastery) and senior Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern) who were recently named to the 2006 All-Big South team. This will be the third straight year Currie has competed in this event.
"Doug is our top-returner this year," head coach Jeff Jacobs said. "We will rely on his consistency and experience to help lead our team at Regionals. Our goal all year has been to finish the season in the top 10. This program has never finished higher than 13th so finishing in the top 10 would be a great team accomplishment this year."
The NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville is one of nine regional events around the nation scheduled for Saturday where the top two teams in each race will earn automatic bids (18 men and 18 women) to the national championships. The remaining 13 spots in the field of 31 for each championship race will be filled by at large selections based on points scored against other championship caliber squads.
The Chants will travel their top seven runners this year to Regionals they include: McCarthy, Currie, John Heron (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), Max Hacker (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West), Blair Paul (Queenston, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill), Jake Morris (Aiken, S.C./Aiken and Timmy Supplee (Columbia, S.C./Irmo).
