SUMMERVILLE, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina men's cross country team finished second in the 2006 New Balance Big South Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Miler Country Club.
The top finisher for the men was freshman Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Cork Co., Ireland/North Monastery) who finished fourth with a time of 25:09.60. Close behind was senior Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern ) finishing fifth at 25:10.80.
"Overall I was very pleased with our finish today," Head Coach Jeff Jacobs said. "We have run very well this season and I thought today our guys ran well as a team and I couldn't be more proud of them."
Finishing in 12th was John Heron (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius ) in a time of 25:40.35 and in 15th Max Hacker (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) with a time of 25:52.50. Next for Coastal was Blair Paul (Queenston, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill) in a time of 26:08 and finishing in 21st place. Finishing out the top 25 was Jake Morris (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) finishing in 26:20 in 22nd place.
Timmy Supplee (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) finished in 28th place with a time of 28:49, while Korey Larson (Sanbam, NY/Niagara Wheatfield (Erie CC)) was close behind in the 29th spot finishing in 26:53. Ryan Caputo (Clarks Summit, Pa./Albington Heights) finished the race in 59th place in 28:20.
There was a total of 70 runners in the meet. The Chants finished with an overall average time of 25:36.45and a score of 57 falling to Liberty who finished with 32 points and an average time of 25:09.94.
