Men's Cross Country Finishes 16th at Blue Ridge Mountain Open
BOONE, N.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University men's cross country team earned 16th overall out of 26 teams at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open (8k) in Boone,, N.C., Friday, Oct. 17. North Carolina won the meet with a team score of 43, while the Chanticleers earned 471 points.
High Point and VMI placed ahead of Coastal Carolina in the team standings finishing sixth and eighth, respectively. The Chanticleers beat out UNC Asheville (21st) and Gardner-Webb (25th).
Junior Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Ireland/North Monastery) finished 16th in a field of 210 runners. McCarthy clicked in at 25:07, more than a minute faster off his performance last season on the same course.
"Jamie led us again with an outstanding effort," Head Coach Jeff Jacobscommented. "Taking a minute off his run last year shows how well he is running now."
Freshman Kyle Kling (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) was close behind, finishing 29th with a time of 25:32.
"Kyle's run was impressive because the hills make this is a very difficult race," Jacobs remarked.
Sophomore Kevin Davis (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro Horsham) was the third Chant across the line with a time of 28:20, while redshirt freshman Rob Delviscio (Morton, Pa./Ridley) slipped in behind him crossing the line with a personal best of 28:23.
Junior David Mead (Columbia, S.C./Ridgeview) ran a solid 28:54. Sophomore Travis Owens (FortMill, S.C./Fort Mill) competed for the first time this season and clocked in at 29:24.
The Chanticleers will take the next two weeks to prepare for the New Balance Big South Conference Cross Country Championships, which will be held in Lynchburg, Va., Liberty will host the Championships Saturday, Nov. 1, with the race set to begin at
