Men's Cross Country to Compete at Blue Ridge Mountain Open

CONWAY, S.C. -- With four races under its belt, the Coastal Carolina University men's cross country team will compete at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open (8k) hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C., for its final tune-up before the Big South Conference Championship (Nov. 1). With an increase in the number of entries, the race time has been moved up to 3:45 p.m.

The Blue Ridge Mountain Open will feature five Big South opponents as Radford, UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, VMI and High Point will compete in the field.

 

In their last outing at the Brooks Paul Short Run, the Chanticleers posted solid races, including three personal bests from freshman Kyle Kling (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville), redshirt freshman Rob Delviscio (Morton, Pa./Ridley) and junior David Mead (Columbia, S.C./Ridgeview).

Junior Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Ireland/North Monastery) leads the Chants into the Blue Ridge Mountain Open after registering the fastest time for Coastal Carolina this season. McCarthy clicked in at 24:58 at the Brooks Paul Short Run, 12 seconds off his personal best.

Kling set a personal best of 25:11, continuing a standout freshman year for the Louisville native. Sophomore Kevin Davis (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro Horsham) ran a solid 27:43, while Delviscio recorded a personal best with a time of 28:32. Mead shaved 22 seconds off his personal best, crossing the line at 28:34.

Following the Blue Ridge Mountain Open, Coastal Carolina will head to the New Balance Big South Conference Championship Saturday Nov. 1 in Lynchburg, Va. Race time is set for 10:30 a.m.
