Men's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at Great American Cross Country Festival
CARY, N.C. - Coastal Carolina's men's cross country team finished fourth with 153 points in the Great American Cross Country Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24. The men competed in the University Seeded Race. The top three schools ahead of CCU were: #18 North Carolina State won with 33 points, Norfolk State took second with 81 points, and William and Mary took third with 113 points.
Nelson Oliveria (Coimbra, Portugal/Quintas das Flores) finished sixth with a personal best time of 24:56. CCU also had three additional runners who made pr's in the 8k race Saturday. Doug Currie (Sarnia, Ontario/Sarnia Northern) finished 20th with a 25:23. Blair Paul (Queenston, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill) posted a time of 26:07 and finished in 37th. Justin Foxworth (Georgetown, S.C./Georgetown) finished 44th with a 26:13.
Head Cross Country Coach Jeff Jacobs reflected on his teams performance, "I was happy with our performance today. It was a big improvement over the way we ran here last year. Nelson had a fantastic race as our lead runner. He finished ahead of all but one N.C. State runner, a team who are among the top 20 nationally."
Coastal Carolina men's cross country team will travel to Greenville, S.C. Oct. 8 to compete in the Furman Invitational at 9 a.m.
