LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina University men's cross country team scored 108 points for a fourth-place finish at the Big South Conference Preview (8k) in Lynchburg, Va., Saturday, Sept. 20. The Chanticleers had two runners finish in the top-10 in a field of 51 competitors.
Junior Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Ireland/North Monastery) ran a solid race, taking third place with a time of 26:19.1.“Jamie ran a great race, his best race since maybe his freshman year,” remarked Head Coach Jeff Jacobs. “He’s much improved from last year and it was good to see him at the top of the conference again.”
Freshman Kyle Kling (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) ran an impressive 26:50.0, placing 10th in his first 8k race as a Chanticleer.
“Kyle showed that he is in the hunt for all-conference,” Jacobs continued. “He finished ahead of some quality runners, so that is promising.”
Sophomore Kevin Davis (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro Horsham) ran a steady race crossing the line at 28:54.9 while junior Ryan Caputo (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) finished with a time of 29:43.8.Redshirt freshman Rob Delviscio (Morton, Pa./Ridley) ran 29:54.5 in his first 8k race as a Chant. Junior David Mead (Columbia, S.C./Ridgeview) clocked in with a time of 30:15.6. The Chanticleers will be back in action Friday, Oct. 3, when they compete at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. Race time is set for 11 a.m.
