Men's Cross Country's Jamie McCarthy Named Big South Runner of The Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina's freshman Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick Cork Co., Ireland/North Monastery) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006.

McCarthy finished first at the Coastal Carolina Cross Country Invitational finishing in time of 25:25 for a new course record in the 8K race. His first place finish led the team to wins over North Carolina and East Carolina who were also at the Invitational.

McCarthy has had two strong finishes this year finishing first at the home meet as well as a sixth place finish during week one at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C. with a time of 26:21 where the CCU also took home the title. McCarthy is the second Chanticleer to earn Big South Runner of the Week honors this season as freshman John Heron (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) was named during week one.

McCarthy and the Chanticleer men will hit the road next weekend as they head to Lehigh, Pa. for the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Sept. 29.
