Men's Cross Country Wins Coastal Carolina Invitational
CONWAY, S.C. –The Coastal Carolina University men’s cross country team won the Cosatal Carolina Invitational Sept. 14 held at Quail Creek Golf Course in Conway, S.C. The Chanticleers had four runners place in the top five while beating the Coastal Alumni and UNC Wilmington.Coastal alum Doug Currie won the race with a time of 26:05.88 on the 8,000-meter course. Sophomore Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Cork Co., Ireland/North Monastery) was the top collegiate in second place with a time of 26:13.02. Senior Blair Paul (Queenston, Ontario/Sir Winston Churchill) finished third with a time of 26:29.57, while sophomore Max Hacker (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) was fourth at 26:34.83. Senior Jake Morris (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) finished fifth at 27:10.15, while freshman Kevin Davis (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro Horrsham) rounded out Coastal’s top five with a ninth-place finish (27:29.87).Sophomore Ryan Caputo (ClarksSummit, Pa./Abington Heights) finished 13th with a time of 28:33.03 with freshman Mike Kimmel (Dilsburg, Pa./Northern) not far behind in 14th at 28:42.70. Rounding out the Chanticleers were freshman Travis Owens (FortMill, S.C./Fort Mill) in 18th (29:47.50) and redshirt freshman David Mead (Columbia, S.C./Ridgeview) in 19th (29:48.03).Coastal scored 23 points in the meet, followed by the Coastal alumni with 46 points and UNC Wilmington with 59.Coastal is at Bethlehem, Pa., for the Paul Short Run Friday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
