THIS WEEK IN CCU MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY:
What: CCU Invitational
When: Friday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m.
Where: Conway, S.C.

CHANTS HOST CCU INVITATIONAL: For the third consecutive season, the Chanticleers will host the Coastal Carolina University Invitational, held at Quail Creek Golf Course. The meet is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14 with a 6:30 p.m. start. UNC Wilmington, USC Beaufort and Mt. Olive College join the Chants to round out the invitational field. Coastal has claimed the CCU Invitational title the past two years.

 

CCU FINISHES SIXTH AT COVERED BRIDGE OPEN:

The CCU men’s cross country team opened the 2007 season with a sixth place finish at the Covered Bridge Open, Friday, Aug. 31. The Chants totaled 139 points. Sophomore Jamie McCarthy paced Coastal with a time of 26:05.42 and an 18th place finish. Senior Blair Paul placed 25th with a 26:28.93 mark, while sophomore Max Hacker’s time of 26:32.03 was 29th.

 

LAST YEAR AT THE CCU INVITATIONAL:

The Chants won the 2006 CCU Invitational, Sept. 16. The meet was held as a double dual, as Coastal defeated both North Carolina, 24-32, and East Carolina, 15-50.

The Chanticleers went 1-2 as four runners finished in the top seven, led by Jamie McCarthy’s course record of 25:25.64 to win the individual 8K title. Doug Currie finished second, just three seconds behind at 25:28.01. Max Hacker finished fifth in 25:41.03, while John Heron was seventh after losing a shoe in the opening mile and running the remainder of the race with just one shoe.

 

COASTAL SELECTED SECOND IN PRESEASON POLL:

CCU was picked to finish second in the Big South Conference. Liberty was picked to repeat as conference champions, receiving all 16 first-place votes. The preseason poll is voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.
