Men's Cross Country's McCarthy Earns Big South Runner of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Coastal Carolina University junior Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick Cork Co., Ireland/North Monastery) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotel Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week as announced by the league office Thursday, Sept. 4.

McCarthy finished first at the Gamecock Invitational, clicking in at 15:41.46. The Chanticleers claimed the team title with 22 points, ahead of Mercer (43 points) and Presbyterian (84 points). The Chanticleers had all six runners cross the finish line in the top-12 in a field of 34 competitors.

This is McCarthy's second Cross Country Runner of the Week selection. In 2006, McCarthy won the Coastal Carolina Cross Country Invitational in a time of 25:25, propelling him to All-Conference and Big South Freshman of the Year honors.

The Chanticleers will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 13, when they host the Coastal Carolina Invitational at Quail Creek Golf Course in Conway, S.C.
