Men's Cross Country to Open 2009 Season at Gamecock Open

The Chanticleers will look to win the invitation for the second consecutive time.

The Coastal Carolina men's cross country team will open the 2009 season at the Gamecock Open in Columbia, S.C on Friday, Sept. 4. The race is set to start at 6:30 p.m.

Last season, the Chanticleers won the invitational as a team and placed the top two individually. Senior Jamie McCarthy came in first with a time of 15:41.46, and Kyle Kling placed second with a time of 16:03.05. David Mead finished the race with a time of 17:12.30 in eighth place and Ryan Caputo was 12th with a time of 17:28.59.

The Chanticleers will enter seven members to the invitational this year. Returning to the invitational from last year will be McCarthy, Kling, Mead and Caputo. Newcomers to the meet and the Chanticleers are Josh Tormasi and Jarod Williams. Max Hacker will also be making his return to the team after redshirting last year with an injury.

Along with the Chanticleers, the other Division I teams that expected to compete are Clemson, Citadel, S.C. State, and Mercer.
