Men's Cross Country Set To Start 2007 Season
THIS WEEK IN CCU MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY:
What: Covered Bridge Open

Where: Boone, N.C.
OFF TO THE RACES: The Coastal Carolina University men’s cross country team opens the 2007 season at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C., Friday, Aug. 31. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. The Chanticleers are the defending champions after defeating eight schools in 2006.
COASTAL SELECTED SECOND IN PRESEASON POLL: CCU was picked to finish second in the Big South Conference. Liberty was picked to repeat as conference champions, receiving all 16 first-place votes. The preseason poll is voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.
CHANTS HOST CCU INVITATIONAL: For the third consecutive season, the Chanticleers will host the CCU Invitational. The meet is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14 with a 6:30 p.m. start. UNC Wilmington USC Beaufort and Charleston Southern join the Chants to round out the invitational field. Coastal has claimed the CCU Invitational title the past two years.
2006 HIGHLIGHTS: The CCU cross country team registered strong performances throughout the 2006 season, claiming two first place finishes and claiming runner-up in the Big South. Coastal won the Covered Bridge Open and the CCU Invitational.
Jamie McCarthy won the Big South Freshman of the Year award, becoming just the fifth Chant to garner the honor. McCarthy was also named to the Big South All-Conference Team with Doug Currie. Blair Paul was named to the All-Academic team.
