The Coastal Carolina University men's cross country team was voted to finish fourth in the Big South Conference Preseason Poll as voted by the League's coaches, the conference announced today. The Chanticleers earned 69 votes in the poll.

"I think the preseason poll is a fair assessment as to where we are now considering only two of our six runners ran in the conference championship last year," Head Coach Jeff Jacobs said. "I would say we have the potential to run with the top three teams in the conference. The guys have to keep working."

The cross country team's leading returners are senior Jamie McCarthy, who finished fifth in the 2008 conference championship, and sophomore Kyle Kling, who finished 12th.

The 2009 cross country season will open Sept. 4 at the Gamecock Open in Columbia, S.C.
